Performers of the Week

Week #1 : September 8

Offense


Meredith Whiteley
St. Norbert College

Whiteley, a sophomore forward from Wilmette, Ill., (New Trier H.S.) scored four goals in the Green Knights' 9-0 victory over UW-Superior Sunday and assisted on the game-winning goal Saturday in SNC's 2-0 victory over St. Scholastica. She collected a total of nine points in the two games.

Sarah Shepherd
Lake Forest


Sarah Shepherd, a junior stopper from Newburgh, Ontario (Williston-Northampton), led the Lake Forest defense to a pair of shutouts at the Sal Vaccaro Tournament over the weekend. The Foresters defeated Mt. Mercy College 4-0 Friday evening and then host North Central College by the same score in Saturday's championship game. Both opponents were held to less than 10 shots.


Week #2 : September 15

Offense


Melissa Stevenson
Lake Forest
Stevenson, a sophomore forward from Littleton, Colo, put LFC on the board 48 seconds into their 3-0 win over Dominican University Wednesday and added an assist in the contest. She saved her best performance for Saturday when the Foresters topped Ripon 4-0 in MWC action. Stevenson scored her team's first three goals in the contest. For the week, she had four goals and an assist.

Defense


Mei-Yun Gibson
Lake Forest
Gibson, a junior defenfer from Aurora, Col. (Eaglecrest H.S.) helped her team record a pair of shutouts during the week. On Wednesday, Gibson and company led Domunican University to just two shots and then opened MWC play on Saturday with a win over Ripon, limiting the Red Hawks to just one shot while scoring a goal of her own.

Week #3 : September 22

Krista Schneider
Carroll


Sara Evans
Grinnell

 

Schneider, a junior forward from Crystal Lake Ill. (South HS), became Carroll's all-time leader in career goals in her team's victory over Lawrence, pushing her career total to 35. Schneider tied the game with under seven minutes remaining and then won it in overtime with a goal at 2:08 of the first extra session. She also scored once in Carroll's victory over Ripon.

 

 

Grinnell's E vans, a junior forward from Huntsville Ala., posted six goals during a four-game stretch. She scored the winner in the Pioneers' victory over Beloit and had her team's lone score in a loss to Gustavus Adolphus. Evans, the MWC scoring leader last season, tallied four goals in Grinnell's victory over Knox.


Defense


Larissa Forde
Lawrence

Forde, a senior goalkeeper from Moorhead, Minnesota (Moorhead H.S.), posted her first shutout of the season to help Lawrence to a 1-1 record on the week. Forde recorded eight saves in the team's win over Edgewood on Wednesday and then tallied 16 saves in a loss to unbeaten Carroll on Sunday.

Week #4: September 29

Offense


Amy Horneck
Monmouth

Horneck, a sophomore forward from Hemiston Ore., had a goal and two assists in her team’s 5-0 victory at Illinois College then scored twice as Monmouth fell at Grinnell. In the last 12 meetings with Grinnell, the Fighting Scots had scored only once against the Pioneers. Horneck doubled that output in 90 minutes on Saturday.

Kristin Beyer
Carroll
Beyer, a junior sweeper from Waukesha, Wis. (Waukesha South HS), led Carroll College to a pair of shutouts last week. The Lady Pioneers blanked Beloit on Wednesday and Carthage on Sunday. Beyer and the rest of the defense allowed their opponents to attempt just seven shots combined. The unit has surrendered just five goals this season in eight games.

Week #5: October 6

Offense

 

Emily Buzicki
Lawrence

Buzicky, a junior forward from St. Paul Minn. (Highland Park) recorded her second career hat trick in Lawrence’s win over Knox. Two of her goals were unassisted. She also assisted on the Vikings’ other marker. In Saturday’s battle with undefeated MWC leader Grinnell, Buzicky jumped on a rebound in the ninth minute and gave her team an early lead.


Defense


Jess Myers
Monmouth

 

Myers, a freshman sweeper from Warrenton, Virginia (Fauquier), helped lead a revitalized Scots’ defense that posted shutouts in all three matches last week. As the last line of defense before the goalie, Myers proved to be the ‘keeper’s best friend, helping limit Robert Morris to seven shots and Ripon to just two. Sunday against Carroll, Myers’ efforts helped Monmouth snap the Lady Pioneers’ 21-match regular season winning streak. Myers played every minute of each game as the Scots broke the previous school record with three consecutive shutouts.

Week #6: October 13

Offense


Sara Gross
St. Norbert

Gross, a junior forward from Fond du Lac, Wis., scored a pair of goals and added three assists in the Green Knights’ victory over Lawrence. On the season, Gross has 15 goals and seven assists for a production of 37 points.


Defense


Megan Pulskis
Grinnell

 

Pluskis, a senior from Dyer, Indiana, helped Grinnell remain undefeated in the MWC as the team shut out Lake Forest College on Saturday. Pluskis marked the conference’s leading scorer and kept her in check as the Pioneers blanked their fourth conference opponent.

Week #7: October 20

Offense


Melissa Stevenson
Lake Forest

Stevenson, a sophomore forward from Littleton Col. (Dakota Ridge), set LFC single season records for assists (15) and points (45) when she tallied four goals and four assists in wins over Benedictine, Illinois C. and Monmouth. She scored the first two goals in a win over Benedictine then assisted on her team’s first two goals Saturday in a win at Illinois C. Stevenson had a hand in each of the Foresters’ goals (two goals, two assists) as the Foresters blanked Monmouth.

Mei-Yun Gibson, a junior sweeper from Aurora, Col. (Eaglecrest HS), helped Lake Forest record three victories last week, including a pair of MWC shutouts. Gibson scored a goal in the Foresters’ victory over Benedictine and another in the team’s win at Illinois C. on Saturday. She also led the defensive charge in those games and the victory at Monmouth .

Week #8: October 27

Offense


Sara Gross
St. Norbert

Gross, a junior forward from Fond du Lac, Wis., keyed the Knights to a spot in the MWC tournament with three goals and an assist in a critical 5-3 victory over Monmouth. The next day, Gross opened the Green Knight’s match at Illinois College with an unassisted goal and helped her team post a 3-1 win. For the season, Gross has 20 goals and eight assists for a total of 48 points.


Defense


Kristin Mertel
Monmouth
Freshman stopper Mertel, a freshman stopper from Hoffman Estates, Ill.(HS), made her presence felt on both offense and defense in Monmouth’s final two games of the season. Despite playing a defensive position, Mertel notched a goal and an assist against St. Norbert, and she also had the Scots’ only assist in a 1-1 tie against Lawrence.
