Week #1 : September 8

Offense


Tanya Lopez
Lake Forest

Lopez, a first-year midfielder from Albuquerque, NM, helped the Foresters to a 3-0 start to the 2002 season. In the victory over Concordia (WI), Lopez scored four times. The midfielder tallied three more goals in the win over Knox.



Week #2 : September 15

Offense


Sara Gross
St. Norbert

Gross, a sophomore forward from Fond du Lac, Wis., led St. Norbert to a 3-0 week by scoring five goals and notching one assist for a total of 11 points. Gross tallied one goal in a win over Concordia and two goals apiece in victories over Edgewood and Beloit. The sophomore’s assist came against Beloit giving her five on the season to match her seven goals.

Lauren Bentrap
Monmouth

Bentrup, a senior goalkeeper from St. Louis, Mo., (Oakville HS) posted her second career shutout against Robert Morris College and followed that with a 20-save performance in a loss to Augustana. Bentrup’s save percentage sits at .893 and her goals against average at 1.50 for the year.

Week #3 : September 22

Sara Evans
Grinnell

Evans, a sophomore forward from Huntsville, Ala., scored 19 points in the Pioneers’25-goal outburst in three games. Evans tickled the twine eight times in games against Knox, Beloit and Central to move her into ninth-place in career goals at the school. Evans also added three assists on the week.

Katie Wilkin
Lawrence

Wilkin, a senior goalkeeper from Oregon, Wis., (Oregon HS) made 28 saves in a 2-1 double-overtime loss to UW-Oshkosh. Wilkin, who shut out Lake Forest, the defending MWC Champion, last week lowered her goals against average to 2.33 and raised her save percentage to .864.

Week #4 : September 29

Danata Janofsky
Lawrence

Janofsky, a senior midfielder from Concord, Ohio, (Riverside HS) scored her first goal of the season but it turned out to be one of the biggest so far this season as it gave the Vikings a MWC victory over previously undefeated St. Norbert. Janofsky’s score left Lawrence undefeated for the season in league play.

Katie Wilkin
Lawrence

Wilkin, a senior goalkeeper from Oregon, Wis., (Oregon HS) captures her second-consecutive POW honor after shutting out St. Norbert in a battle of undefeated MWC teams and making nine saves and contributing to a shutout against Edgewood College in a non-conference match. Wilkin’s goals against average is now 1.72.

Week #5 : October 6

Offense


Sara Gross
St. Norbert

Gross, a sophomore forward from Fond du Lac, Wis., (Goodrich HS) earned her second POW award of the young season following a four-goal output this weekend. Gross scored two each in shutout wins over Grinnell and Knox and broke the school record in points for a season with 36 in the process. The old record of 33 was accomplished in 18 games while Gross has set her mark in just 11.

Jessie Senn
St. Norbert

Senn, a sophomore defender from Richfield, Wis., (Hartford HS) led the Green Knight defense in a shutout of Grinnell and a blanking of Knox over the weekend. Senn also scored a goal in the win at Knox.

Week #6 : October 13

Offense


Amy Horneck Monmouth

Horneck, a first-year forward from Hermiston, Ore., (Hermiston HS) scored her fourth hat-trick of the year against Upper Iowa with five goals in the win. In the contest Horneck set the school record for goals in a contest, eclipsed the mark for goals in a season (16) and points in a season (16). The first-year forward is already fourth on the Monmouth career points list.

Defense

Angela Headen
Illinois C.

Headen, a junior stopper from Jacksonville, Ill., (Jacksonville HS) was singled out by Lady Blues’ Head Coach Bret Berry as the difference-maker in Illinois College’s 1-0 overtime win over cross-town rival MacMurray College.
Headen’s play led her squad to the victory despite being outshot 17-4.


Week #7 : October 20

Offense


Erin Pauling
Carroll

Pauling, a senior midfielder from St. Charles, Ill., (St. Charles HS) scored the game-winning goal on a 25-yard free kick in a 1-0 win over St. Norbert to keep the Pioneers undefeated for the season and in the driver’s seat for the MWC title. Pauling has five goals on the season of which four have been game-winners.

Defense

Katie Kroenke
Carroll

Kroenke, a sophomore goalkeeper from Sussex, Wis., (Hamilton HS) recorded shutout victories over MWC opponents Lake Forest and St. Norbert to help the Pioneers remain undefeated atop league standings. Kroenke registered seven saves in the overtime win against Lake Forest and seven saves against St. Norbert. Kroenke has not surrendered a goal in over 185 minutes.

Week #8 : October 27

Offense


Krista Schneider
Carroll

Schneider, a sophomore forward from Crystal Lake, Ill., (South HS) helped the Pioneers cap a perfect 9-0 MWC season and claim the 2002 Championship by scoring three goals during the week including two against Knox. Schneider broke the single season record for goals (15) with 17 and broke the single-season points record (35) with 38.

Kristin Beyer
Carroll

Beyer, a sophomore defender from Waukesha, Wis., (South HS) helped spur the Pioneers’ defense to three conference wins last week as they secured the 2002 MWC Championship. Beyer’s play was pivotal for her team as they allowed just two goals for the week as Carroll completed a perfect 9-0 season.

Week #9 : November 3

Offense


Greta Raaen
Lawrence

Raaen, a sophomore forward from Byron, Minn., (Byron HS) scored two goals and added one assist in the Vikings’ victory over Beloit. Raaen assisted on the game’s first goal and scored the second goal unassisted after beating a pair of Beloit defenders. The sophomore forward scored her final goal with eight minutes minutes reamaining and now leads her team with eight goals, six assists and 22 points on the season.

Lawrence

Wilkin, a senior goalkeeper from Oregon, Wis., (Oregon HS) collected her third shutout of the season in Lawrence’s win over Beloit. Wilkin made four saves including one at point-blank range, and for the season has a 1.73 goals against average and an .868 save percentage.
