Lady Blues Close Out Play At D-III Golf Finals

Jacksonville, Ill. - Illinois College posted a final round total of 355 Saturday (May 16) and closed out play at the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Senior Janelle Kuhn (Okawville) led the IC women with a final round of 85 and finished in a tie for 93 rd place with a four-round total of 353. Fellow senior Meredith Robinson ( Barrington) posted an 88 Saturday and trailed Kuhn for the team lead by two strokes. For the week Kuhn shot scores of 88-97-83-85 while Robinson turned in rounds of 80-99-88-88.

Illinois College sophomore Juliann Papesch ( Lincoln) was 100 th in the individual standings after an 89 Saturday and a tournament total of 360. Senior Leah Reuschel (Camp Point) shot a 93 on the final round to finish at 378 for the week while sophomore Nicole DeMatteo (Villa Park) posted a 97 Saturday and closed out play with a 380 total.

Papesch posted round-by-round scores of 93-87-91-89 while Reuschel shot 94-97-94-93 and DeMatteo 94-94-95-97.

 
 
Sophomore Posts Lady Blues’ Top Round At D-III Finals

Jacksonville, Ill. - Sophomore Juliann Papesch registered Illinois College’s best round Thursday (May 14) as the Lady Blues reached the midway point of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Papesch, a Lincoln High School graduate, finished the day with an 87 and ranks 94th in a field of 111 golfers with a two-day total of 180. Senior Meredith Robinson (Barrington) is 91st after shooting a 99 Thursday that left her with a two-day total of 179.

Other team members include senior Janelle Kuhn (Okawville) in 101st place at 185, sophomore Nicole DeMatteo (Villa Park) 105th at 188, and senior Leah Reuschel (Camp Point) 109th at 191. On Thursday, Kuhn shot a 97 while DeMatteo turned in a round of 94 and Reuschel had a 97.

Third-round play is set for Friday (May 15) with the fourth and final round Saturday (May 16). Complete information, including live scoring, is available at the tournament web site.

Illinois College Opens Play At NCAA Women’s Golf Finals

Jacksonville, Ill. - Illinois College is in 20th place following completion of the opening round Wednesday (May 13) of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Meredith Robinson fired the best round of the day for the Lady Blues with an eight-over-par 80. That placed the senior from Barrington in a tie for 28th place. Teammate Janelle Kuhn (Okawville) finished with an 88 while Juliann Papesch ( Lincoln) had a 93. Illinois College’s Leah Reuschel (Camp Point) and Nicole DeMatteo ( Villa Park) each had rounds of 94.

The Lady Blues are competing in their third consecutive NCAA championship tournament. The team won the right to compete by capturing their sixth consecutive Midwest Conference championship in the sport last fall. The four-round tournament continues Thursday (May 14) and concludes Saturday (May 16). A total of 111 student-athletes and 21 teams are competing in the event.

Lady Blues Preparing For Return Trip To NCAA Golf Finals

For the third year in a row, Illinois College will represent the Midwest Conference at the nation’s premier event for women’s collegiate golf.

Five members of the 2008-2009 Lady Blues’ golf team are preparing to participate in the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships May 11-16 at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Methodist University of Fayetteville, N.C., is serving as the event host.

Illinois College earned the Midwest Conference’s automatic bid to the national finals last fall when the Lady Blues captured their sixth consecutive league title. The IC women will be among the 21 teams entered in the four rounds of play at PGA Village. A total of 111 student-athletes are expected to tee off when play begins May 13.

The Lady Blues will be represented by seniors Janelle Kuhn, Leah Reuschel and Meredith Robinson, along with juniors Juliann Papesch and Nicole DeMatteo.

 
 
Illinois College Claims 6th Women's Golf Title In A Row

With a 26-stroke lead after the first round of competition the Illinois College Lady Blues coasted to their record 6th-consecutive title at the 2008 MWC Championships at Grinnell Golf and Country Club in Grinnell, Iowa. Head Coach Brenna Kelly's linksters captured five of the the ten All-Conference positions led by senior Meredith Robinson's gold medalist performance.

Among the highlights of the three-round championship were two eagles on the par-4 1st, one eagle on the par-4 10th and a hole-in-one on the par-3 11th on Saturday by Nicole Dematteo of Illinois College.

The Lady Blues also earned the MWC Automatic Bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament held in May of 2009 in Palm Beach, Florida.

Carroll Freshman Sinks Hole-in-One

Erin Sullivan, a freshmen from Elkhorn, Wis. (Elkhorn) recorded Carroll University’s first ever (on record) hole-in-one. Sullivan’s ace came on the par 3, 184 yard seventh hole at Platteville Golf Club during the UW-Platteville Invite on September 6-7. The freshman finished the weekend with a two-day total of 213 (109-104) to finish in 37th place.

 
 
2008 Season Set To Begin On August 30

Seven Midwest Conference women’s golf programs are scheduled to begin their 2008 seasons at tournaments on Saturday and Sunday, August 30-31.

Carroll, Ripon and St. Norbert will play in the UW-Eau Claire Invitational in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, while Illinois College will welcome Grinnell, Knox and Monmouth among others when the school hosts the Lady Blue Invite in Jacksonville, Ill.

Illinois College has won five consecutive MWC team titles, while St. Norbert junior Andrea Liebelt (right) is the defending MWC individual medalist after carding a 54-hole total of 241 at the 2007 MWC Championship.
