KATE GLUCKMAN NAMED NEW WOMEN’S

BASKETBALL COACH AT GRINNELL COLLEGE

GRINNELL, Iowa – Kate Gluckman, who helped build a successful women’s basketball program as assistant coach at Tufts University, has been named the new women’s hoops coach at Grinnell College.

She replaces Andy Hamilton ’85, who resigned as the Pioneers’ mentor after serving six seasons. Gluckman has coached at Tufts since 2006. In her first season at the Massachusetts school, the Jumbos compiled an 18-8 mark. Tufts bettered that record this season, going 26-4 while advancing all the way to the NCAA Division III National Tournament Elite Eight. The 2007-08 mark is the best in school history.

Gluckman also played basketball at Tufts, where she served as team captain in 2003-04 on a squad that went 18-6, the program’s best mark to that date. She was a member of the Jumbos’ track and field team, as well, and earned All-New England honors in the discus while also collecting academic all-conference honors.

“The moment I stepped on Grinnell’s campus, I felt a strong connection with the people,” said Gluckman. “The school has a similar philosophy to Tufts in demanding excellence in academics and having a strong balance between that and athletics. This is an exciting opportunity for me.”

Gluckman takes over a Pioneer team that graduates just two players. “We have a very strong group of returnees who got a lot of minutes last season,” she explained. “I think there’s some potential for a very successful season.”

“We’re excited to have Kate coming to Grinnell College,” said Director of Athletics and Recreation Greg Wallace. “She not only brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm, but has the experience of helping build the Tufts women’s basketball program into a national contender. She’ll do a great job here.”
