Ripon College's Women's Basketball Team Honored For Academic Success
Ripon College’s women’s basketball team was selected as one of the Top 25 Division III Academic Teams in the country by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The prestigious honor, which is based off of the results from the 2004-05 season, tabs teams based on their combined team grade point average. The Red Hawks tied for 24th in the poll with Colby College (ME), as both schools registered a combined team grade point average of 3.334.

In her 15th season as head coach at Ripon, Julie Johnson guided her team to a 12-4 record in Midwest Conference play and a 20-7 mark overall last season. The third-seeded Red Hawks would go on to defeat the #2 and #1 seeds en route to winning the MWC Championship tourney title and the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Ripon defeated Rockford College in the first round of the NCAA tourney, before falling to UW-Stout in the second round.

The Red Hawks women’s basketball team placed 10 student-athletes on the MWC Winter Academic All-Conference team, more than any other team in the league.

York College finished with the #1 ranking in the WBCA poll, as the school located in York, Pa., posted a combined GPA of 3.725.

Former Badger Named Beloit Women's Basketball Coach

Don Adams, a former NCAA Division I assistant women's basketball coach at two universities including Wisconsin, has been hired to take over the reigns of the Beloit College women's basketball program, Athletic Director Kim Chandler announced today. Adams begins his tour of duty with the Buccaneers immediately.

Adams spent the last two seasons as the assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Maine at Orono and helped guide the Black Bears to a pair of American East Conference regular-season championships. Maine compiled a 45-17 record during those two years, captured the 2003-04 conference tournament title and appeared in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. During the 2002-03 season, Adams was an assistant coach at Wisconsin. He also served as an assistant women's basketball coach at NCAA Division III Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa (2000-02), and as an assistant boy's basketball coach at Cassville High School (Wis.) for three seasons.

Adams earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Lacrosse University in Madisonville, La. He also has an associate degree in hospitality management from Madison Area Technical College.

Rogers Named New Women's Basketball Coach At Knox

Knox College named Wendy Rogers as their new head women's basketball coach.

Rogers spent the past three seasons as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Salem State College in Salem, Mass. Coaching under legendary Division III coach Tim Shea, Rogers helped Salem State to three straight NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament appearances and a 68-17 record during those three seasons. Shea has a record of 535-120 at Salem State and 22 NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in the past 23 seasons, more than any other Division III program in the country.

Prior to coaching at Salem State, Rogers was the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Regis College, an all-women's school in Weston, Mass. During her two seasons at Regis, Rogers rebuilt a struggling program showing improvement both seasons while bringing in fourteen new players during her two years there.

Rogers played basketball at Eastern Connecticut State University, an NCAA Division III school in Willimantic, Conn. As a three-year starting point guard, Roers lead Eastern Connecticut State to two NCAA Division III Final Four appearances her junior and senior seasons (1990 & 1991). During her senior season, she was also named Eastern College Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Kodak Honoroable Mention All-American. This past year Rogers was inducted in the Eastern Connecticut State Athletic Hall of Fame.

Rogers will also serve as the assistant women's soccer coach and director of intramurals at Knox.

Broderick Resigns Coaching Duties At Beloit College

Michelle Broderick, women's basketball coach and assistant women's soccer coach at Beloit College, resigned (June 15), Athletic Director Kim Chandler announced. Broderick's resignation is effective immediately.

Broderick served as the head women's basketball coach for four seasons, and also was the Buccaneers assistant coach for three previous campaigns. The Buccaneers won 25 games under her tutelage, including eight in each of the past two seasons, as she worked towards turning the program around. She coached five All-Midwest Conference players during her tenure.

Chandler said a national search for Broderick's replacement will begin immediately.

RC's Janine Emmer named WBCA/Kodak DIII All-America

Ripon College’s Janine Emmer earned another honor this week when she was named a Division III basketball All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the Eastman Kodak Company. The honorable mention honor squad was chosen by committee members in each of the eight WBCA regions.

Emmer, who was also named All-American by D3hoops.com and Women’s DIII News earlier this year, helped guide the Red Hawks to a 20-7 overall record in 2005 and a second consecutive trip to the NCAA National Tournament. The native of Slinger, Wis., who was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Year and All-Region by D3hoops.com, averaged 14.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest this past season. She shot 52 percent from the field and led the team in assists (94) and steals (79).

“This is a very big honor for Janine. The WBCA/Kodak All-America Team is the premiere honor squad in collegiate women’s basketball. Janine has been recognized along with some of the best players in the country and she certainly deserves every moment of this recognition,” said Julie Johnson, head women’s basketball coach at Ripon College. “I don’t know that there has ever been a better basketball player in the history of Ripon College women’s basketball than Janine Emmer. And, I am not to sure there has ever been a better female athlete in any sport. Janine is that good.”

The other players on the All-America team include: Amy Argetsinger, DePauw; Sarah Caskey, Albion; Eileen Flaherty, Bowdoin College; Susie Gutowski, University of Chicago; Kelly Heil, Ohio Wesleyan University; Brittany Herrick, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and Caitlin Malcolm, Brandeis University.

Molly McNamara to assist with MC women's basketball program

Monmouth College announced Monday that Molly McNamara will take over the head coaching duties of the Fighting Scots’ women’s golf team. McNamara, a 2003 graduate of Monmouth, will also serve as assistant coach for the women’s basketball team.

Starting in the fall of 2006, the Midwest Conference team champion will automatically qualify for the NCAA tournament. As a result, the league is placing a higher emphasis on a split schedule for women’s golf, since the national tourney is played in the spring.

McNamara is also excited to join forces with recently named women’s basketball head coach Melissa Jones.

“My first love was basketball, and I started playing in third grade,” said McNamara, who grew up in nearby Alexis. “I was a three-year varsity player but, unfortunately, I stopped growing. I received a lot of good coaching at Alexis, and I look forward to passing that on to our student-athletes."
