The final NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Statistics report was released and the Midwest Conference was well represented with outstanding team and individual accomplishments.
Leading the list of individual performances was Lake Forest's Sarah Frantz who finished 13th in the country with 11.95 assists per game. St. Norbert's Katie Carrier finished 14th in the country in kills per game (4.45) while Ripon's Katie Plier placed 17th with 1.38 blocks per game. Angela Lagerman, of Lake Forest, recorded a .359 hitting percentage, good for 25th in the nation.
Led by Plier, Ripon averaged 3.52 blocks per game in 2000 placing them 4th overall in the country in that category. Lake Forest finished 12th in team assists with 13.02 and 30th in won-lost percentage with a .793 mark after posting a 23-6 overall record.

Illinois College's Amy Heberlein, a junior from Liberty, Ill., is among a select group of student-athletes across the midwest named to the Verizon Academic All-District V College Division Volleyball Team.
Heberlein, an outside hitter, was one of six players to earn second team honors. A three-time All-MWC selection, Heberlein set a school record this fall with 424 kills. Heberlein is an environmental studies major with a 3.84 cumulative GPA..
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) is an active partner in the selection process.
Lake Forest, the 2000 MWC Champions, dropped a first-round match in the NCAA Division III National Tournament to Elmhurst College 3-0 (15-4, 15-7, 15-1) on Thurs., Nov. 9. The Foresters (23-6) were led on offense by Stephanie Lagerman's seven kills while Chrissy Laurine contributed a team-high 12 digs at the Midwest Regional hosted by UW-Whitewater. Lake Forest won the South Division title over the weekend with two divisional wins on consecutive days over Monmouth and Illinois C.
Friday the Foresters traveled to Monmouth and defeated the Scots 15-3, 15-9, 15-5. Amanda Taylor had nine kills and Jenny Anderson, Chrissy Lavrine and Stephanie Reinboldt each had eight apiece as the Lake Forest stayed undefeated and set up Saturday's showdown with the undefeated Lady Blues of Illinois C.
It was Angela Lagerman's turn to lead the Foresters as she finished with 19 kills in a 3-0 win over Illinois C. in Jacksonville. Sara Frant posted 47 assists as Lake Forest claimed the South Division title and a #1 seed in the MWC tournament this weekend. Nicole Bunage and Camilla Trump had ten kills apiece for the Lady Blues.
Two other conference matches Saturday in the North Division helped finalize the regular season standings and seedings for the conference tournament. Lawrence improved their mark to 2-2 in the league and took sole possession of third place in the North with a three-game win over Ripon. Jenny Burris had 18 digs and 11 kills in the victory while Bridget Griesbach tallied 26 assists and 10 digs in the loss for Ripon.
In the other league finale, St. Norbert defeated Beloit in three games to remain undefeated in the North Division. With the #1 seed already in hand from a win over Lawrence earlier in the week, the Green Knights kept the momentum going into the conference tournament with scores of 15-6, 15-8 and 15-6. Katie Carrier had 13 kills and nine digs for St. Norbert. Michelle Sundeberg had a game-high three blocks for the Bucs.
St. Norbert defeated Lawrence in three games Wednesday night and secured the North Division title and #1 seed headed into the Nov. 3-4 tournament at Monmouth. The Green Knights' Katie Carrier set a school-record for kills in a three-game match with 23 as St. Norbert reached 20 wins in a season for the third year in a row. Jenny Burris recorded 25 digs and Jessie Menzel had 28 assists for Lawrence.
St. Norbert has one divisional match remaining at Beloit on Oct. 28. Regardless of the outcome of the Beloit match, St. Norbert holds the tie-breaking advantage over Carroll if both teams were to finish 3-1 because the Green Knights defeated the Pioneers in head-to-head competition.
Regular season conference action heated up in the MWC this past week with seven key matches.
Illinois C. moved quickly to the top of the South with wins
over Grinnell and Knox. The match against Grinnell on Oct. 21 could turn
out to be the match of the year in the league as both teams battled to five-games,
with two games going extra points. After jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead,
the Lady Blues had the Pioneers with their backs against the wall and Grinnell
responded with a 17-15 win in the third game to extend the match. After
a second game win in the 4th by Grinnell, Illinois C. regained their footing
to win the fifth and final game 15-10. IC's Amy Heberlein and Grinnell's
Susie Przybylinski went head to head as the two hitters recorded 27 and
25 kills respectively to lead their teams. Heberlein also logged 32 digs
while Przybylinski notched 21 of her own along with seven blocks.
Illinois C. defeated Knox on Tuesday in three games and as Heberlein led the Lady Blues again with 18 kills. Camilla Trump added 14 kills and eight digs.
Lake Forest kept pace with the Lady Blues for the South Division Title by handing Knox a 3-0 loss on Friday. Amanda Taylor recorded 10 kills and six digs for the Foresters who moved to within one game of Illinois C. The two teams meet for a showdown in the final regular season match in the MWC on Oct. 28.
In the North, Lawrence evened their division record to 1-1 with a five-game win over Beloit. The Vikings won game one 15-11, but had to rally from a 2-1 deficit after the Buccaneers took games two and three.
St. Norbert remained in first place in the North with a four-game win over Carroll in DePere on Wed., Oct. 18. In a battle of last year's North Division Champion Carroll and the second-place finisher St. Norbert, it was the Pioneers getting the earlier jump in the match with a 15-10 win. The Green Knights fought back with three straight wins, surrendering no more than six points in each game. Laura Felch contributed to the victory with 13 digs and ten kills.
Despite the loss to St. Norbert Carroll remained in the hunt for the division title with a four-game win in Ripon on Tues., Oct. 24. The Red Hawks and Pioneers split the first two games before Carroll won the final two. Trisha Holland, Kim Possehl and Alison Sorce had 12 kills apiece while Ripon's Katie Plier had a game-high 15 kills of her own.
With the win, Carroll concludes regular season divisional play with a 3-1 record. Two St. Norbert losses would give the Pioneers their second straight divisional title, but one win by the Green Knights will help them claim the title and a #1 seed in the tournament.

Midwest Conference action was in high gear Wednesday night as six teams were in action. The game of the night pitted South Division rivals Monmouth and Illinois C. in a match played at Monmouth. Suspense wasn't lacking as the match went five games before the Lady Blues pulled out a come-from-behind win. Illinois C. was in command in game one, winning 15-6, before the host Scots rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the match with 15-13 and 15-10 wins. The Lady Blues battled back to win games four and five by identical 15-10 scores. Illinois C., led by Camilla Trump's 18 kills, moves to 1-0 in the south. For the game box, click here.
St. Norbert opened up their North Division play as they traveled to 1-0 Ripon. Green Knight hitter Katie Carrier took control in games two and three to thwart Red Hawk rallies as St. Norbert moved to 1-0 in the North with a three-game sweep. Carrier finished with 12 kills. Ripon was led by Heather Schneider's eight kills.
Carroll handed Beloit a 15-0 shutout in game one and moved into a first-place tie with St. Norbert after a 3-1 win over the Bucs at home Wednesday night.
First-year setter Jenny Brooks recorded 32 assists, nine digs, three blocks and a .429 hitting percentage as she helped lead Ripon to a three-game win over Beloit in the first MWC match-up of the 2000 season. Ripon used a strong defense that included 49 digs.
Beloit's Michelle Sundberg, former MWC "Player of the Week," recorded 13 kills and a strong .611 hitting percentage.
With an 8-2 record to start the season and strong wins over opponents like Illinois Wesleyan and Benedictine, Lake Forest has moved into the midwest region poll at the #8 position. For more on the AVCA poll, click here.
Ripon won three out of four matches at their own tournament in Ripon on Friday and Saturday. The Red Hawks victories came over Concordia, Northland and Cardinal Stritch.
Monmouth and Grinnell participated in the Wheaton College Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Both teams went 1-3 on the two-day tourney, with Monmouth's win coming over Wisconsin Lutheran and Grinnell's win coming over Concordia (Ill.).
The Bucanneers won their fourth match of the season with a convincing three-game sweep over Mount Mary Friday night.
Also on Friday, St. Norbert was defeated in DePere by visiting Benedictine in four games. Katie Carrier notched 21 kills and 15 digs while Erin Raddatz recorded her 500th career block in the match.
Reigning MWC Champion Lake Forest defeated Judson College (7-5) in four games Thursday evening in Lake Forest. Stephanie Reinboldt had a game-high 21 kills and a .500 hitting percentage as she led the Foresters to their fifth-straight win. For the game box, click here.
St. Norbert improved to 11-5 overall with a three-game sweep at Lakeland. Katie Carrier led the way with 20 kills.
In other action, Lawrence dropped Edgewood in four games and Grinnell handled Cornell in three games.
Lake Forest defeated Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington Tuesday evening to improve to 7-2 on the year. The Titans were ranked #6 in the region. For the game box, click here.
In other non-conference action, Illinois C. lost to Quincy University at home in four games and Beloit lost to U. of Chicago in four games.
Three straight wins by Illinois College at the Rose-Hulman Invitational helped propel the Lady Blues to a 10-5 overall record coming off the weekend. Their only loss was a four-game match against Indiana Southeast. The Lady Blues wins were over Greenville, Robert Morris and Rose-Hulman. Amy Heberlein, last week's MWC South Division Player of the Week, was named to the all-tournament team.
Beloit lost 15-5 in their first game against Ripon but won the next three straight for the match victory at their own invitational this past weekend. The Bucs finished the weekend 1-2.
Carroll and Ripon were both held winless over the weekend. Carroll dropped matches to Marian, Lakeland and Bethany while Ripon, including the Beloit loss, went 0-4 during the two-day event.
Monmouth made quick work of host U. of Chicago and Dominican at the 2000 Chicago Volleyball Classic, but lost in three games to Loras in the championship to finish second with a 2-1 record.
Led by all-tournament team performers Jeni Bradley and Katie Carrier, the St. Norbert Green Knights went 3-1 on Saturday at their own invitational and finished second.
Lawrence also competed in the invitational and finished 1-2. Jessi Menzel and Lis Pollock were named to the all-tournament team for the Vikings.
In a non-conference match against UW-Eau Claire at home Friday night, St. Norbert defeated the Bluegolds for the first time in school history in four matches.
Stephanie Reinboldt recorded eight kills and logged an impressive .571 attack percentage as the Foresters rolled to a three-game match over Trinity International University. For the game box, click here.
The Green Knights moved to 6-4 on the year after a 2-2 showing at the St. Mary's tournament this past weekend. On Sept. 8 St. Norbert def. St. Catherine's but fell to UW-Oshkosh. Saturday the Green Knights won big over Luther and then lost in three games to St. Thomas.
Tuesday night the Green Knights took care of non-conference opponent Edgewood College by the scores of 15-4, 15-7, 15-3, to win their division-leading 7th game of the season.
Lake Forest took their first two matches of the weekend against Millikin and Maranatha Baptist during the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament on Friday and Saturday, before dropping their last two against the host and UW-River Falls respectively.
Junior Stephanie Reinboldt was named to the six person all-tournament team.
Beloit was dealt four losses over the weekend at the UW-Whitewater Tournament. On Friday the Bucs lost to ITT and conference-rival Carroll, while Saturday brought defeats by Carthage and Marian.
After their win over Beloit, Carroll dropped three in a row to Carthage, Marian and UW-Whitewater.
Grinnell had similar results at the Nebraska Wesleyan Classic where they dropped four matches in two days. The Pioneers lost to Wartburg in four, St. Scholastica in four, Nebraska Wesleyan in three and Dakota Wesleyan in five.
The Fighting Scots improved to 5-3 on the season after a 3-1 weekend at the Coe College Tournament. Monmouth made it to the championship game against the host by defeating Cornell, Lawrence and Mt. St. Clare. Monmouth won the first game of the championship match, then tied the contest at two games apiece after trailing 2-1, but lost 15-11 in game five.
Lawrence lost to Coe in three games on Friday in addition to their loss to Monmouth. The Vikings rebounded on Saturday with a victory over Cornell in three games, before bowing to Mt. St. Clare in five hard-fought games.
The Prairie Fire traveled Saturday to Augustana where they lost to Eureka, Augustana and Webster all in three games each.
A five-game winning streak to start the season by the Lady Blues of Illinois C. came to an end Friday at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament as they lost to Benedictine and UW-River Falls. Amy Heberlein registered 20 kills in the six games and added 17 digs against River Falls.
Ripon also had their five-game winning streak snapped on Friday as they participated in the two-day tournament at UW-Platteville. Ripon fell to North Central and Dubuque on Friday and UW-Platteville and UW-LaCrosse on Saturday. Ripon is now 5-4.
The Pioneers were victorious over Edgewood at Wheaton College Wednesday night taking the match in four games for their third win of the season. Carroll finished the night with a loss to the host in a long-fought five-game match.
Led by Courtney Damm's three blocks and 14 assists by Katie Kovara, the Green Knights improved their record to 4-2 on the year with a convincing three-game sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran in non-conference play Wednesday night.
Grinnell also improved their record to 3-3 by taking care of Marycrest in three games; 15-3, 15-5, 15-11.
The Fighting Scots were in action Wednesday night as they traveled to Iowa Wesleyan for a non-conference match. Monmouth was defeated 15-7, 15-5, 15-5, to fall to 2-2 overall on the season.
First-year players Kris Bjork and Becky Mowers continued their strong play with ten and eight kills repsectively, but it wasn't enough against NAIA representative Mt. St. Clare as the Prairie Fire fell at home : 15-10, 15-11, 11-15, 17-15.
The Lady Blues of Illinois C. made quick work of cross-town rival MacMurray and improved their record to 5-0 on the season with a convincing three-game sweep. Pam Gillis recorded 23 assists in the win.
The Red Hawks went 4-0 on the weekend picking up wins against MSOE, Edgewood, Rockford and conference-foe Beloit. Ripon added another non-conference win against Wisconsin Lutheran Tuesday evening to up their mark to 5-0.
Beloit finished 2-2 in the tournament at Ripon with wins over Edgewood and Rockford. The Edgewood victory, The Bucs first match of the season, gave Head Coach Vanessa MacCallum her first win in her first season at Beloit.
The Green Knights jumped out to a 2-0 start to the 2000 season on Friday and captured another win on Saturday against host UW-Superior at the Stinger Classic before dropping their final two matches of the weekend. St. Norbert finished a strong 4th in the ten-team tournament while Katie Carrier and Katie Kovara were named to the all-tournament team.
Also competing in the UW-Superior Classic was Lawrence. The Vikings lost their first three matches before rebounding with two wins, including a three-game run over Hamline to finish 2-3.
The Fighting Scots made it to the championship game in the own invitational before losing to Iowa Wesleyan to finish 2nd. Monmouth defeated Mt. St. Clare in four games and disposed of MacMurray in three games. Knox also defeated MacMurray in their final game of the tournament to finish 1-2 on the weekend, in 5th place.
After losses to North Central and Martin Luther, the Pioneers held off William Penn in five games for their first victory of the season, and finished the weekend with a loss to Maryville and a three-game sweep of Aurora.
After losing to Adrian College in their opening game at the Benedictine Tournament, Carroll won two straight over Dominican and U. of Chicago respectively. A three-game loss to host Benedictine left Carroll 2-2 headed into this week's action.
Defending MWC Champion Lake Forest is the preseason favorite to capture the MWC title of the second year in a row. The Foresters were chosen to finish first this season in a poll conducted of all ten MWC coaches. St. Norbert was a strong choice for second followed by a tight race for third through seventh place by five teams.
Illinois C. finished third in the voting, just ahead
of Carroll and Monmouth who tied for fourth place. Grinnell
was slotted for sixth place, just edging out Ripon in seventh. Lawrence,
Knox and Beloit rounded out the final three spots.
The 2000 MWC season starts Sept. 27 when Ripon visits
Beloit. The 2000 MWC Championship will be held on Nov. 3 & 4
and will be hosted by Monmouth. The winner of the tournament championship
will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Div. III tournament.
