Week #1: November 6, 2007

Patrick Duvall - Beloit College - Freshman
West Lafayette, Ind.

Duvall has set four school records through his first four collegiate meets, including a pair in a dual win over Benedictine on Saturday. The freshman set new school bests in the 400 IM (4:23.47) and the 100-meter backstroke (57.89) on Saturday. Last week at the St. Norbert Sprint, he broke records in the 100 IM and 50-meter backstroke, while also anchoring a record-setting effort by the 200 medley relay team.

   
Anne Lane - Monmouth College - Sophomore
St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood

Lane finished first in the 200-meter freestyle, the 100- and 200-meter butterfly and swam a leg on the winning 200-meter medley relay team as Monmouth defeated Lake Forest 160-89 for the Scots first dual meet win against the Foresters in the history of the program. The sophomore logged conference-best times in the 100 (59.34) and 200 butterfly (2:24.49).
   
Week #2: November 13, 2007

Kevin Raske - Monmouth College - Freshman
Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown

At Saturday’s Monmouth Invite, Raske set the pool and school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:58.70), finishing nearly two minutes ahead of his closest competitor. In addition, the freshman set the school and pool record while winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.92) and his leg in the 200-yard freestyle relay set the new pool mark at 1:32.20. He also swam a personal-best 56.39 in the 100-yard backstroke and holds the MWC’s top times in four different events.

   
Jenni Schalla - Ripon College - Sophomore
West Bend, Wis./West Bend

Schalla helped Ripon to a pair of victories in their double dual against MWC foes Beloit and St. Norbert in the Red Hawks’ lone home meet of the season. The sophomore won both the 400 yard IM and 200 yard breaststroke with times of 5:14.81 and 2:41.72, respectively. She was also a part of Ripon’s winning relay team in the 200 yard medley, which swam a time of 2:01.90. Schalla holds the MWC’s top times in both breaststroke events.
   
Week #3: November 20, 2007

Garnet Smith - Grinnell College - Senior
Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional

Smith broke a school and pool record in Friday’s dual victory over Loras in three-meter diving. His score of 309.20 bettered the previous mark of 294.0 by Nate Bernnaman in 1995. He also won the one-meter diving against the Duhawks with a score of 271.5. The senior went on to win both diving events the next day in a double dual with the University of Chicago and Lake Forest with scores of 279.95 and 212.35, respectively.

   
Meghan McDoniel - Grinnell College - Sophomore
Moline, Ill./Moline

McDoniel had a big weekend for the Pioneers, starting with a triple-victory Friday in a dual with Loras. The sophomore won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events in 55.80 and 2:02.55, respectively, and swam a leg on the winning 400 medley relay that finished in 4:15.90. In a double dual the next day against the University of Chicago and Lake Forest, McDoniel posted two more wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.58) and 200 IM (2:19.14).
   
Week #4: December 4, 2007

Michael Mackin - Lake Forest College - Freshman
Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick

Mackin put his name near the top of the school record books at Carthage’s TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic over the weekend. The freshman placed ninth in the 200-backstroke on Friday, as his time of 1:57.13 ranked as the fourth-fastest in team history. He also finished fourth in Saturday’s 100-backstroke with a time of 53.47 seconds, ranking him third in program history. Mackin placed 18th in his other individual event, the 100-butterfly, with a time of 54.48 seconds. He currently holds the MWC’s top time in three different events (100 back, 200 back, 100 fly).

   
Rebecca Hamlyn - Lawrence University - Freshman
Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills

Hamlyn won one event and placed in two others at Saturday’s UW-Oshkosh Invitational. The freshman won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:23.59, the third-fastest time in the conference this season. She also took second in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.61 and placed seventh in the 200 freestyle in 2:07.20. Hamlyn led Lawrence to a fourth-place finish in the team standings despite the fact the Vikings did not compete in the afternoon session due to the blizzard in the area.
   
Week #5: December 11, 2007

Patrick Duvall - Beloit College - Freshman
West Lafayette, Ind.

Duvall won a pair of events as the Buccaneers defeated Coe and lost to UW-Whitewater in a triple dual on Saturday. The freshman won the 100 butterfly in 54.86 and then set his fifth school record of the season with a time of 2:02.68 in the 200 IM. Duvall has now set school records in the 100 backstroke, 200 butterfly, 200 IM, 400 IM and as the lead swimmer on the 200 medley relay team.

   
Susie Henderson - Beloit College - Junior
Petersburg, Alaska

Henderson turned in a pair of third-place finishes as the Bucs tied Coe and fell to UW-Whitewater in a triple dual on Saturday. The junior swam the 200 IM in 2:34.57 and the 100 butterfly in 1:10.00. Henderson currently ranks among the top 10 in the conference in a trio of events (100 fly, 200 fly, 400 IM).
   
Week #6: January 15, 2008

Dan Miller - Carroll College - Senior
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln

Miller played a major role in helping the Carroll men to a pair of victories over MWC foes at Saturday’s Carroll Collision Invitational. Miller finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.95) and 100-yard freestyle (52.53) and swam the first leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:44.93). The Pioneers defeated Beloit (99-82) and Ripon (107-69) in their first meet in 2008.

   
Hayley Vatch - Lawrence University - Junior
Elmhurst, Ill./York

Vatch won two events and swam on a second-place relay team in Lawrence’s dual meet at UW-Whitewater on Saturday. The junior won the
500-yard freestyle in 5:32.98 and took first in the 1,650 freestyle in 18:28.94. She swam the opening leg of the 400 relay team, which placed second at 3:54.84. Her time in the 1,650 freestyle is the
fastest in the league this season and the 500 freestyle mark is the
third-fastest in the conference.
   
Week #7: January 22, 2008

Cyrus Mistry - Grinnell College - Freshman
West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley

Mistry set a school record in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Grinnell Invitational on Friday. His winning time of 2:11.51 broke the previous mark of 2:11.68, set in 1992 by Scott Truelove. Mistry also had a trio of runner-up finishes in the 400 medley relay (3:47.08), 200 medley relay (1:41.82) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.13). He was third in the 400 IM (4:32.12) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:07.16). The freshman owns the MWC’s top times in both breaststroke events this season.

   
Megan Rice - Ripon College - Freshman
New Berlin, Wis./Waukesha Catholic Memorial

Rice helped Ripon to a second-place finish at the Beloit Triangular on Friday, winning two individual events, while also swimming a leg on a winning relay team. Rice finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.44 and also won the 100-yard freestyle (59.22). The freshman swam a leg on Ripon’s winning 400-yard medley relay team, which finished with a time of 4:31.16.
   
Week #8: January 29, 2008

Michael Ojdana - Lake Forest College - Senior
Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier

Ojdana helped lead the Lake Forest men to victory at the four-team Lawrence Invitational on Saturday. The senior won the 100-freestyle in 49.65 (48.61 in prelims), the 200-freestyle in 1:51.10 and placed second in the 1000-freestyle in 10:30.13. He also anchored the victorious 200-medley and 400-freestyle relay teams. Ojdana currently owns three of the MWC’s top times this season.

   
Megan Wentzlaff - Monmouth College - Senior
Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East

Wentzlaff accounted for four of Monmouth’s first-place finishes in a dual meet at Coe on Saturday. The senior touched the wall first in the 200-breaststroke (2:52.46), 1000-freestyle (12:04.97) and the 200-individual medley (2:35.79). Wentzlaff also teamed with Jessica Houser, Jessica DeMink, and Heather Plum to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:10.39).
   
Week #9: February 5, 2008

Taylor Pechauer - Carroll College - Senior
Antioch, Wis./Antioch Community

Pechauer won two individual events and placed third in another to lead Carroll to a second-place team finish at Saturday’s six-team Wisconsin Private College Championships. The senior won the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:01.58 and 2:17.45, respectively, and clocked a time of 2:08.29 to finish third in the 200-yard IM.

   
Maggie Rezac - Lake Forest College - Senior
Omaha, Neb./Marian

Rezac broke both of Lake Forest’s dual meet diving records in the team’s 116-72 victory over visiting IIT on Saturday. The senior posted a winning a score of 313.13 in the 1-meter competition to surpass the previous mark of 285.35. Her first-place score of 319.73 off the 3-meter board exceeded the record of 297.95 that she set last season. Her 1-meter score was higher than anyone in the nation had posted prior to the weekend and there had been only one performance in the country better than her 3-meter mark.
   
Week #10: February 12, 2008

Jack Clifford - Monmouth College - Sophomore
Rantoul, Ill./St. Thomas More

Clifford scored a career-best 275.85 in the 1-meter diving event at last Saturday’s Titan Diving Invitational held at Illinois Wesleyan. Clifford finished sixth in the 11-dive event and is currently ranked fourth in the MWC.

   
Kayce DeRoo - Monmouth College - Freshman
Elgin, Ill./Larkin

DeRoo won the 1-meter diving event at last Saturday’s Titan Diving Invitational held at Illinois Wesleyan. DeRoo scored a school-record 319.10 to edge her closest competitor by nearly four points.
