Lloyd
named Lawrence's
interim swim coach
APPLETON, Wis. -- Daniel Lloyd has been named the interim head
men's and women's swimming coach, Director of Athletics Robert Beeman announced Wednesday.
Lloyd comes to Lawrence from Millikin University,
where he has served as an assistant swim coach and recruiting coordinator for
the past year.
"Dan has had the
opportunity to coach at the high school, Division III and Division I levels
during his career," Beeman said. "He has
made the choice to be a Division III coach, and we are very pleased to have him
join the Lawrence
University coaching
family. We expect that Dan's experience, both as a competitor and coach, will
translate into success and the growth of our swimming program."
A 2002 graduate of Millikin with degrees in commercial art/computer design and
photography, Lloyd spent two seasons as the head coach at Normal
(Ill.) Community West
High School. He was named
the Illinois High School Association girls' sectional Coach of the Year after
guiding six swimmers to the state championships. His 2005 girls' team won the
IHSA sectional championship, and his 2005-06 boys' team posted an undefeated
regular season, the first in school history.
A native of Normal,
Ill., Lloyd then served as an assistant at the
University of Michigan before going back to Millikin.
"I'm excited about the
opportunity to join the Lawrence family and the
tradition of Lawrence
swimming," Lloyd said. "I look forward to continuing the excellence
of producing quality student-athletes who are successful both in the pool and
the classroom."
As a swimmer at Millikin, Lloyd was a five-time NCAA Division III
All-American and three-time Academic All-American. Lloyd, who won the Lindsey
Medallion as Millikin's Athlete of the Year, was the
College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Swimmer of the Year in 2000. He
set 18 CCIW records and won nine individual conference championships. Lloyd won
the conference title in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,650
freestyle all four years he was at Millikin.
The Vikings return 23 women
from a team that finished second at the Midwest Conference Championships in
2007. The Viking men return 11 swimmers from a team that placed fourth at the
league championships. Lawrence
opens its season Oct. 27 when it hosts the St. Norbert College Sprint Meet at Boldt Natatorium.
