Beloit swim teams earn Academic All-America Awards
The Beloit College women's and men's swim
teams were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom by being
named College Swimming Coaches Association of America Academic All-America
teams. To qualify for the honor, the grade point average of the entire
squad must average at least a 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. The Buccaneer women
earned the highest possible Academic All-America Award - "superior"
- because their combeind GPA was 3.54. The superior ranking is for teams
with a GPA of 3.25 or better. The men's team earned a "commendable"
 award
for its 2.99 GPA.
The Buccaneer women compiled the second highest
grade point average in the country in the NCAA's Division III for the
winter/spring semester 2004, and the eighth highest GPA regardless of
gender or division, according to the CSCAA. The men's team had the 29th
highest male GPA in Division III. In all, 187 teams - men and women at
all levels of the NCAA - met the criteria. Fifty-one NCAA Division III
womens teams qualified and 37 NCAA Division III men's teams qualified.

Lake Forest's Bueter Earns All-American
Honors - Freshman places in two events at National Meet
Thanks solely to the efforts of freshman
Chelsea Bueter (Swisher, IA/Prairie), the Lake Forest College women's
swimming & diving team placed 43rd at the NCAA Division III National Championship
Meet over the weekend (March 11-13). On  Thursday,
Bueter posted the 15th-fastest 200-individual medley time in the preliminaries
but moved up four places to 11th in the finals that evening with a school
record time of 2:10.01. Bueter's time of 4:41.08 in Friday's 400-individual
medley ranked 22nd so she did not qualify for the finals that night. Her
best performance of the meet came in Saturday's 200-breaststroke. She
recorded the eighth-fastest time (2:24.11) in the preliminaries and finished
in the same place that evening in the finals. Bueter is the 31st Forester
female to earn All-American honors. She set a school record in the 200-breaststroke
(2:23.99) earlier in the season and was named Midwest Conference Swimmer
of the Year after winning three individual races and participating on
a pair of victorious relay teams at the MWC Championship Meet on February

Divers Represent Grinnell Well
Coach Erin Hurley accompanied two of her divers to
the NCAA Division III National Championships and witnessed top performances
by each. Sarah Stayer ’06 (Houston, Tex.), competing at the meet for
the second straight year, received Honorable Mention All-America designation
for her 16th-place finish in the 3m competition. Off the 1m board, Stayer
was 19th overall. Stayer is the four-time reigning Midwest Conference
Champion on both boards. Eric Blevins ’04 (Abingdon, Va.) was in his
first appearance at the national event and made good on the opportunity.
He finished sixth off the 1m boards and with the performance, received
All-America Honors. In the 3m competition, he was 10th and was designated
Honorable Mention All-America. Blevins is the only eight-time Midwest
Conference Champion, winning the 1m and 3m competitions in all eight

Divers Stayer and Blevins Chosen to
Advance to NCAA National Meet
Sarah Stayer '06 has advanced to the Division
III NCAA National Championship meet for the second straight year. The
four-time Midwest Conference Champion travels to St. Peters, Mo. to the
St. Peter's Rec-Plex March 11-13. She will dive in the 1-meter event Thursday
and the 3-meter event Friday and Saturday. Competition begins at 11 a.m.
each day. As a rookie in 2003,  Stayer
earned All-American honors by finishing 14th on the lower board and 18th
on the higher board. Eric Blevins '04 (Abingdon, Va.) has also advanced
to the Division III NCAA National Championship meet for the first time
in his career. The only eight-time Midwest Conference Champion will travel
to St. Peters, Mo. to the St. Peter's Rec-Plex March 18-20. He will dive
in the 1-meter event Thursday and the 3-meter event Friday and Saturday.

Grinnell's Blevins tops nine year-old diving record
Grinnell senior diver Eric Blevins toppled
the Midwest Conference's 1m diving mark set by fellow Pioneer alum Nate
Brennaman in 1995 (460.10) on Saturday, January 24 at Coe College when
he received a score of 469.50. Blevins is the defending MWC Champion on
the 1-meter and 3-meter board.

Lake Forest's Bueter clips two league records in first
year
In just her first year with Lake Forest College
Chelsea Bueter has already made her mark on the Midwest Conference as
the Swisher, Iowa, native has broken two records. On November 22 at the
Washington University Invitational Swisher eclipsed two conference marks
that were last set by two Foresters. Bueter finished the 200 Breastroke
in 2:25.71 edging the mark of 2:26.99 set by Lake Forest's Kim Makar in
1998. In the same meet Bueter logged a 200 Individual Medley time of 2:11.75,
besting the mark of 2:12.65 set by Terra Gill, also in 1998.
