Lake Forest's Li is National Champion
Lake Forest junior Jie Li won the 100-yard
backstroke on Friday, March 9 at the NCAA Div. III National Championship
Meet in Buffalo New York at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center on the
campus of Erie Community College. Li's first-place time was 56.73, just
six one-hundredths of a second slower than the national meet record. Li
became the first Forester female swimmer to win a national title. Li also
finished fourth in the 200-yard backstroke on Saturday.
Rachel Sellon, a first-year swimmer from
Grinnell, placed 16th in the finals of the 200 butterfly (2:12.90) at
the national meet, earning an All-American Honorable Mention. Sellon qualified
for the finals of the 200 fly with a 16th place time of 2:11.54 in prelims.
