Week #1: November 12

Brandon
Johnson
Lake Forest
Johnson, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz., won three of
four individual distance races this past weekend and swam on a winning
relay team for the Foresters. On Friday Johnson helped defeat Benedictine
and Illinois Wesleyan with a first-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle
(10:42.97) and a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:13.97)
while swimming a leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay. On Saturday,
Lake Forest hosted (25-meter pool) and defeated Carthage College and
Johnson won both his races, the 800 freestyle (9:19.10) and the 400
freestyle (4:31.48), and swam on the second-place 200-free relay.

Rachel
Sellon
Grinnell
Sellon a sophomore from Lawrence, Kan., won two events
and took second in another as the Pioneers recorded dual meet wins over
Knox and Illinois Wesleyan. Sellon finished second in the 1,000 freestyle
(10:50.02), being out touched by four-tenths of a second. She then came
back to win the 200 individual medley (2:18.37) and 100 butterfly (1:02.04).

Towle
Lawrence
Towle, a freshman from Mendota Heights, Minn., swept
the 1- and 3-meter diving for Lawrence for the second-straight meet.
Towle, who won both events on Nov. 10 in a dual meet with the University
of Wisconsin-La Crosse, was again victorious in both last Saturday in
a dual meet with Carroll . Towle won the 1-meter with a score of 198.60
and took the 3-meter with 220.35.

Van Dyken
Lawrence
Van Dyken, a junior from Jenison, Mich., swam to victories
in two events and was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team,
as Lawrence was victorious over Carroll and St. Norbert in the Lawrence
last Saturday. Van Dyken won the 50 freestyle in 25.61 seconds and captured
the 100 freestyle in 56.09 seconds. The 200 freestyle relay won in 1:46.27.

Hurley
Lawrence
Hurley, a senior from Newfoundland, Canada, led Lawrence
to the title at the Gene Davis Invitational this past weekend at Lawrence.
Hurley swam to victory in three events. He won the 200 butterfly in
2:01.86, the 400 IM in 4:20.79 and the 500 freestyle in 4:57.29.

Fresch
St. Norbert
Fresch, a freshman from Brookfield, Wis., set a meet
record in one event and helped two relays to first place this past weekend
at the Gene Davis Invitational at Lawrence University. Fresch won the
the 200 butterfly in a meet record time of 2:18.59. She swam on St.
Norbert's winning 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams. Fresch also
took third in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.75 and fourth in the 100 butterfly
in 1:05.59.

Johnson
Lake Forest
Johnson, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz., scored 32.5
of Lake Forest's 174 points at the tough Wheaton Invite last weekend.
Johnson placed eighth in both the 400-yard IM (4:33.02) and the 1,650
freestyle (17:47.60) and took 14th in the 500 freestyle (5:02.84). Johnson
also swam on a pair of relay teams.

Culhane
Carroll
Culhane a sophomore from Bartlett, Ill., had a great
weekend for Carroll in a pair of meets. Against UW-Whitewater on Friday,
Culhane anchored the winning 200-yard medley relay team, placed first
in the 100 butterfly, and led off the 200 freestyle relay with a season
team-best split of 25.89 seconds. On Saturday in a triangular against
UW-Oshkosh and Ripon, Culhane won both the 50 and 100 freestyles, swimming
a season-best time in the 100.

Lake Forest
A junior from Wadsworth, Ill., (Carmel HS) Boarini
won both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races and anchored the winning
400 medley relay team for Lake Forest College during last Saturday dual
meet at Lawrence University. His time in the 100 freestyle was 50.58
seconds and his 1:50.55 in the 200 freestyle was a season best by more
than a second-and-a-half.

Primus
Lawrence
A sophomore from Madison, Wis., Primus showed her versatility,
as she won three events to lead Lawrence University to a 147-90 win
over Lake Forest College in a dual meet last Saturday. Primus won the
1,000-yard freestyle in 11:28.34, captured the 200 individual medley
in 2:21.76, and won the 200 breaststroke in 2:37.88.

Lawrence
Hurley, a senior from St. Phillip's, Newfoundland,
won a pair of events in the University of Wisconsin Triangular. The
senior turned in the conference's best time of the season when he won
the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.40. Hurley also won the 500 freestyle
in 5:02.08.

O'Connell
Carroll
O'Connell, a senior from Granger, Ind., won an individual
race and helped the Pioneers win two relays in a dual meet against Marquette.
The senior swam to victory in the 100 backstroke with a season-best
time of 1:05.41. O'Connell also led off the winning 200-yard medley
relay team and anchored the winning 400 freestyle relay.

Zemaitis
Lake Forest
A senior from Scottsdale, Ariz. (Horizon HS) Zemaitis,
swimming in his final home meet at Lake Forest College, went out with
a bang by swimming in all 11 events Saturday in the Foresters' 115-74
victory over the Illinois Institute of Technology. He finished first
in the 800-meter freestyle (9:31.22), the 200 freestyle (2:08.96) and
the 400 freestyle (4:35.48).

St. Norbert
A sophomore from Kiel, Wis. (Kiel HS) Theil had an
outstanding weekend at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Invite,
placing in the top six in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke
with season-best times in both events. She dropped four seconds in the
200 breaststroke and placed fourth with the time of 2:30.80. She finished
sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.76.

Lawrence
Hurley a senior from St. Phillip's, Newfoundland, led
Lawrence to the team title at the Wisconsin Private Colleges Championships
by winning four events and setting a meet or pool record in each victory.
He won the 200-yard individual medley in a meet record time of 2:02.47
and set a meet record when he won the 200 butterfly in 2:01.51. He set
pool records in winning the 200 freestyle in 1:47.34 and the 400 IM
in 4:21.72.

Grinnell
Sellon a sophomore from Lawrence, Kan., won two events
and swam on a winning relay team in Grinnell's 179-63 win over Coe College
on Saturday. Sellon won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:59.68 and then
won the next event, the 200 freestyle, in 2:06.00. She also swam on
Grinnell's winning 200 freestyle relay team.
