Week #1: November 7

John Kaiser - Monmouth College - Freshman
Hanover Park, Ill./Glenbard North

Kaiser helped Monmouth break a school record and finish first in the 400-yard medley relay (3:50.78) at Saturday’s Carroll Invite. The sophomore also won the 200-meter butterfly in 2:09.86 and took second in the 50-meter freestyle (23.65). The night before at Lake Forest, Kaiser won the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly. The Scots defeated Lake Forest and Lawrence at the double dual meet.

   
Hayley Vatch - Lawrence University - Sophomore - Elmhurst, Ill./York
Vatch won two individual events at the Lake Forest double dual and swam legs on a pair victorious relays teams at the St. Norbert Sprint Meet. Vatch won the 800-meter freestyle (10:12.30) and the 400-meter freestyle (5:01.04) at Lake Forest, while the sophomore helped Lawrence to first-place finishes in the 500-yard crescendo freestyle relay (5:05.04) and the 500-yard freestyle relay (4:34.01) events. The Vikings downed Lake Forest and Monmouth head-to-head and took the team title at St. Norbert.
   
Week #2: November 14

Taylor Pechauer - Carroll College - Junior
Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community

Pechauer finished first in two individual events and claimed a second-place finish in another to lead the Pioneers at the Monmouth Invitational. The junior swimmer dominated the breaststroke events, finishing first in the 100-yard (1:00.94) and 200-yard (2:15.62) events. He then added a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.33. Pechauer holds the top time in the MWC in all three events this season.

   
Julia Ziege - Lawrence University - Freshman
Madison, Wis./LaFollette

Ziege won two events and swam on a pair of winning relay teams as Lawrence beat UW-River Falls (168-125) in a dual meet on Saturday. The freshman swimmer won the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.23) before touching the wall first in the 200 backstroke (2:20.39). Ziege also swam legs on the winning 400 medley relay (4:25.09) and 400 freestyle relay (3:55.85) teams. She holds the top times in the conference this season in the 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle.
   
Week #3: November 21

Paul Gagne - Grinnell College - Freshman
Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood

Gagne recorded a pair of the MWC’s top times and registered four top five finishes over the weekend, as the Grinnell men defeated Coe and Lake Forest head-to-head. On Friday, the freshman swimmer touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.51) and 500-yard freestyle (5:03.65) against Coe. Gagne also grabbed second- (1,000 free) and fourth-place (500 free) finishes against Lake Forest and the University of Chicago on Saturday.

   
Maggie Resac - Lake Forest College - Junior
Omaha, Neb./Marian

Rezac posted NCAA Championship Meet qualifying marks off both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards Saturday in a double-dual meet with Grinnell at the University of Chicago. She won the 1-meter competition with a career-best score of 271.45 and placed first off the higher board with a mark of 263.40. The two-time All-American also won the 1-meter (233.80) competition at UW-Whitewater on Wednesday and placed second in the 3-meter (217.30) event.
   
Week #4: December 5

Taylor Pechauer - Carroll College - Junior
Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community

Pechauer is the Performer of the Week for the second time this season after a strong performance at the two-day Augustana Invitational. The junior finished first in three individual events to lead the Pioneers. He touched the wall first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:07.11, before clocking in at 1:00.99 to win the 100-yard breaststroke. He finished off the weekend by winning the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.85.

   
Anna Antos - St. Norbert College - Senior
Milton, Wis./Milton

Antos was St. Norbert’s top points winner as the Green Knights competed in the Augustana Invitational over the weekend. The senior swimmer finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.49), third in the 500 freestyle (5:34.41) and third in the 400 IM (5:03.97). Antos, who holds the conference’s time in the 500 freestyle after her effort this weekend, also notched a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:27.47).
   
Week #5: December 12

Dan Miller - Carroll College - Junior
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln

Miller won two individual events and swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200 medley relay team to lead the Pioneer men in their dual meet at UW-Whitewater on Friday. Miller recorded a time of 22.68 to win the 50-yard freestyle then won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.28. The 200 medley relay team finished with a time of 1:45.15.

   
Emily Elstad - Carroll College - Junior
Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc

Elstad touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.68 and recorded a time of 2:05.09 to finish second in the 200-yard freestyle in the Lady Pioneers dual meet at UW-Whitewater on Friday.

 

   
Week #6: January 9

Kurt Niemeier - Monmouth College - Junior
Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg

At Saturday’s dual meet in Monmouth’s Pepper Natatorium, Niemeier won the 50-yard freestyle (22.93) and the 100-yard freestyle (49.53). The junior also anchored two winning relays, the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard medley, while helping the Fighting Scots sink visiting Principia 159-73.

   

Annie Lane - Monmouth College - Freshman
St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood

Lane won the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke with personal-best times of 2:04.48 and 2:21.34, respectively, as Monmouth’s women topped Principia 131-105 at a dual meet Saturday. Lane added a third individual victory in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.90) and swam the lead leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay.

   
Week #7: January 16

Taylor Brengel - Lawrence University - Sophomore
Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette

Brengel won the 200-yard backstroke and swam the opening leg of a winning relay in Lawrence’s dual meet against UW-Whitewater on Saturday. The sophomore swimmer won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:05.12, the best mark in the conference this season. He also swam the first leg of the 400 freestyle relay, which posted a winning time of 3:31.08.

   

Meghan McDoniel - Grinnell College - Freshman
Moline, Ill./Moline Senior

McDoniel turned in a solid weekend at the Grinnell Invitational, capturing individual titles in the 200 IM (2:16.59) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.32) before placing fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:37.22) and third in the 200 freestyle (2:01.86). The freshman swimmer swam legs on the winning 400 medley (4:10.95) and 400 freestyle (3:43.57) relay teams and was a member of a pair of runner-up relay teams (200 medley relay and 800 freestyle).

   
Week #8: January 23

Nate Wittnam - Grinnell College - Sophomore
Billings, Mont./Billings Senior

Wittnam was victorious in the 1,000 freestyle (10:25.68) on Friday night at Luther and also swam a leg on the 200 freestyle relay team that finished second (1:33.03). On Saturday at the Carleton Mini-Invite, the sophomore won the 200 backstroke (2:04.08), took second in the 200 butterfly (2:01.55) and finished fourth in the 100 butterfly (55.29). Wittnam currently owns the top times in the MWC in the 200 backstroke and the 200 butterfly.

   

Kim Pernell - Beloit College - Senior
Austin, Texas

Pernell recorded a trio of individual victories in Friday’s dual meet at Loras, but the senior’s effort was not enough as the Buccaneers were edged 97-94 in team scoring. Pernell touched the wall first in the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.46), 100-meter butterfly (1:03.52) and 100-meter backstroke (1:07.85) against Loras.

   
Week #9: January 30

Taylor Brengel - Lawrence University - Sophomore
Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette

Brengel was a winner in three events at the Wisconsin Private College Championships, taking home two individual titles and swimming on a winning relay team. The sophomore swimmer won the 100-yard backstroke (57.40) and touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke (2:06.37). He also swam on the 400 freestyle relay team, which had a winning time of 3:31.08. Brengel’s effort helped Lawrence take second place in the team standings and place first among the four MWC schools competing.

   

Meghan McDoniel - Grinnell College - Freshman
Moline, Ill./Moline Senior

McDoniel was victorious in both the 100 freestyle (54.97) and 200 freestyle (2:00.84) this past Saturday in a Pioneer victory over Loras. Both times were tops in the conference this season, giving the freshman a trio (100 breast) of top marks heading into the 2007 MWC Championships. McDoniel also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team, which clocked in with a time of 1:56.87.
