2013-14 Women's Basketball Performers of the Week

November 18, 2013
Nicole Herkert - Guard - Ripon College
Freshman - Oshkosh, Wis.

In her first collegiate game, Herkert scored 32 points in Friday’s 113-111 overtime loss to North Central College, which is just five shy of Ripon’s single game scoring record. She followed that up with a team-high 15 points in Saturday’s loss to Bluffton University. In addition to her team-best 23.5 points per game over the weekend, Herkert also led the Red Hawks with eight rebounds per game, while adding three assists and 1.5 steals per contest. She shot 54.1 percent (20-37) in the two games combined.

Hannah McGinnis - Forward - Illinois College
Junior - Tunnel Hill, Ill.

McGinnis had two of the best games of her career over the past week to help the Lady Blues to a pair of wins. McGinnis averaged 26.5 points and 20.0 rebounds over the two-game stretch. She tallied career-high totals of 32 points and 24 rebounds in an 82-67 win over MacMurray College on November 20, before going for 21 points and 16 rebounds in a 72-58 win over Grinnell College in the Lady Blues’ Midwest Conference opener on Saturday. McGinnis shot 62.4 percent (18-of-28) from the field and 84.2 percent (16-of-19) from the foul line in the two games, helping the Lady Blues improved to 2-1.

December 2, 2013
Lauren McNanna - Guard - Beloit College
Senior - Yorkville, Ill.

In two MWC games last week (1-1) McNanna averaged 26.5 ppg while shooting 48.4% (15-31) from the field, 60% (9-15) from three-point and making 14 of 15 free throws. She also had 6 rebounds and 7 assists. She scored 20 points with 6 three-pointers in a loss to Ripon on Tuesday before scoring 33 points, including 9-16 from the field and 12-13 from the free throw line, in a win over Grinnell Saturday. The 33 points are the second-most in a game in Beloit history. The 6 three-pointers on Tuesday were also the second-most in a game in history.

Taylor Dicus - Center - Cornell College
Junior - Mount Vernon, Iowa

Dicus averaged 27.5 points, 17.5 rebounds and shot 68.8 percent (22-of-32) from the field during a record-setting week in which she led the Rams to MWC wins over Knox (92-74) and Carroll (73-48). Dicus set single-game school records with 39 points, 26 rebounds and 16 made field goals in the win at Knox. The Rams improved to 5-1 overall, 2-0 in the MWC.

Katie Schumacher - Forward - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Little Chute, Wis.

Schumacher posted her first double-double of the season and had career highs in points and rebounds in Lawrence’s 93-92 comeback win at Knox on Saturday. Schumacher had game highs with 26 points and 16 rebounds, surpassing her previous career highs of 17 points and 15 boards. Lawrence, which rallied from an 18-point second-half deficit, won its first road game in conference play since Feb. 10, 2007, a streak of 54 games.

Lana Wieseman - Forward - Beloit College
Sophomore - Lake Geneva, Wis.

In three games (1-2) Wieseman averaged 19.7 ppg and 8.0 rpg while shooting 52.1% from the field (25-48) and blocking three shots. She had 34 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Knox on 12/19, hitting 14-22 shots from the field. The 34 points tied the BC single-game scoring record, originally set in 1981. She also had 18 points and nine rebounds in a loss at Redlands CA on 12/27. For the season she averages 17.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg and is shooting 50.4% from the field.

January 6, 2014
Corrine Engels - Guard - Carroll University
Junior - Appleton, Wis.

Engels recorded her first career triple-double and led the Carroll University women’s basketball team to a 104-94 come-from-behind victory over Knox College. The junior from Appleton, Wis.(Xavier) finished the night with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists and five steals. Carroll trailed the Prairie Fire by 18 points at halftime and 20 points early in the second before rallying for the victory.

Marla Willard - Forward - Monmouth College
Senior - Pittsfield, Ill.

Willard had a monumental week for Monmouth, scoring her 1,000th point while hitting the game-winning shot just days after the Scots won another last-second thriller. In a 64-62 win over then league-leading St. Norbert on Saturday, Willard canned the winning bucket at the buzzer to finish the come-from-behind game. Just 30 seconds earlier, Willard had picked up her fourth assist by feeding Kaley Corban for a game-tying 3-pointer. Willard finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and four assists, all while becoming just the ninth woman in program history to score 1,000 points. On Wednesday, Willard pumped in a game-high 25 points and snared 13 rebounds to go with five assists as the Scots clipped Carroll 71-69. The senior again had a big hand in the final minutes, hitting a pair of free throws to pull Monmouth to within one and then finding Corban open for a game-winning 3-pointer with nine seconds left on the clock. For the week, Willard averaged 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game while shooting over 60 percent and recording nine assists, six steals and two blocks.

January 20, 2014
Breann Maryanski - Center - Carroll University
Sophomore - Aurora, Ill.

Maryanski converted 15-of-20 field goal attempts last week to help the Carroll University women’s basketball team to Midwest Conference victories over Beloit College (76-37) and Knox College (92-78). Maryanski, a sophomore from Aurora, Ill. (Roseary), scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds in the win over Beloit then contributed 18 points and 17 rebounds in the victory over Knox. Against the Prairie Fire, she also added three blocks and four steals.

Taylor Dicus - Center - Cornell College
Junior - Mount Vernon, Iowa

Dicus averaged 14.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in helping the Rams (13-3) avenge early-season double-digit losses to Monmouth and St. Norbert and climb into a tie for first place in the MWC standings. She posted 15 points and 13 rebounds in a 69-56 home win over Monmouth, and then followed up with a 14-point, 9-rebound effort in Saturday’s 54-46 road win over St. Norbert. Dicus shot 58.8 percent from the field and made 9-of-11 free throws on the week.

Heidi Van Sistine - Center - St. Norbert College
Sophomore - De Pere, Wis.

Van Sistine had a big week to help keep St. Norbert in a share of first place in the Midwest Conference. Van Sistine finished with 17 points and eight rebounds in Tuesday’s 64-53 win over Lake Forest, and then followed with career highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds in a 110-76 win over Knox. Van Sistine shot 17-for-26 from the floor for the week and totaled 22 rebounds.

Marla Willard - Forward - Monmouth College
Senior - Pittsfield, Ill.

Willard helped the Scots avenge a pair of early season losses last week to stay a game out of first in the Midwest Conference race. A 63-55 win over Illinois College Thursday was followed by a 69-52 victory over Ripon on Saturday. On Thursday, Willard pumped in 13 points, but none were bigger than her five free throws in the final 80 seconds to break a 55-55 tie and then hold off the Lady Blues. She then poured in a season-high 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to help Monmouth fend off Ripon just two days later. The senior led the Scots to a 22-2 run in the second half, scoring eight points to turn the tide. For the week Willard averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 7.0 steals per game.

Lana Wieseman - Forward - Beloit College
Sophomore - Lake Geneva, Wis.

In 2 games last week, both victories as the Bucs stretched their winning streak to 4, Wieseman averaged 20.0 ppg and 7.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 66.7% (18-27) from the field, handing out 3 assists, making 3 steals and blocking 2 shots. Her week included 16 points and 8 rebounds in a 79-51 win over Lawrence on Wednesday and 24 points and 6 rebounds in a record-breaking 115-101 win at Knox Saturday. For the season she averages 16.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, both team highs, while shooting 53.8% from the field.

February 24, 2014
Hannah McGinnis - Forward - Illinois College
Junior - Tunnel Hill, Ill.

McGinnis scored an Illinois College single-game record 44 points in the Lady Blues’ 118-89 win over Knox on Wednesday in Jacksonville. She also pulled down 22 rebounds in the victory. McGinnis was 19-of-24 from the field and 6-of-7 from the line, while also adding three assists. McGinnis scored 17 more points in a 75-72 double-overtime loss at St. Norbert on Saturday. McGinnis, the MWC leader in scoring and rebounding, averaged 30.5 points and 13 rebounds per game over the two-game stretch, while shooting 70.2 percent (26-of-37) from the field and 90 percent (9-of-10) from the foul line.
