2011 Men's Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week

September 6, 2011
Logan Simpson - Midfielder - Monmouth College
Junior - Groveland, Ill.
Simpson scored a goal and an assist in the Scots’ first win of the season, a 2-1 win Sunday over Illinois Wesleyan. The junior midfielder headed the game winning goal into the left corner after a feed from Chris Franco and Josh Del Valle in the 47th minute. He then assisted on Franco’s insurance goal 15 minutes later. Simpson and Co. supplied plenty of pressure in last Thursday’s season opener, but couldn’t quite get one past the University of Dubuque’s keeper. For the week, Simpson totalled three points on his goal and assist.

Mahir Mameledzija - Forward - Lake Forest College
Sophomore - Visoko, Bosnia-Herzigovina
Mameledzija scored both of the Foresters’ goals in a 2-1 come-from-behind triumph at Marian University on Saturday. After Marian scored the only goal of the first half, Mameledzija tied the contest at the 53-minute mark and added the game-winner at 67:21. Lake Forest also defeated visiting Edgewood College 1-0 on Wednesday.

Simpson had the best offensive week of a Fighting Scots’ player in recent memory, collecting four goals and an assist. The junior midfielder put a puncuation mark on his week with a hat trick and an assist in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Cornell. Simpson scored in the sixth minute against the Rams and assisted on the Scots next goal after Cornell had tied the match. He again came through when Cornell tied it up for the second time. Less than three minutes after Cornell’s final goal, Simpson punched in the game-winner. He added an insurance goal on a penalty kick to give him seven points on the afternoon. The performance followed Simpson’s unassisted goal in a 4-2 loss to Central last Wednesday.

Jordan Hartman - Midfielder - Lake Forest College
Sophomore - Phoenix, Ariz.
Hartman contributed to the scoring in both of the Foresters’ games as they remained unbeaten on the season. He began the week by scoring his second goal of the season in Tuesday’s 1-1 tie with Dubuque, the region’s fourth-ranked team. Lake Forest opened MWC play with a 4-0 victory over Illinois College on Saturday and Hartman assisted on a pair of goals.

Sophomore - Visoko, Bosnia-Herzigovina
Mameledzija was part of all four of Lake Forest’s goals last week. He kicked in the first score before assisting on both of the others in the Foresters’ 3-0 victory over visiting Millikin University on Wednesday. He also scored the first goal in the team’s 1-1 tie with Monmouth on Saturday.

Tom Slusher - Midfield - Beloit College
Senior - Mt. Prospect, Ill.
Slusher helped propel the Bucs into a first-place tie in the MWC with a pair of game-winning goals last week. On Wednesday Slusher scored the only goal of the match in a 1-0 win over Lake Forest, LFC’s first loss of the season. On Saturday he put Beloit up for good with a goal six minutes into the match on the way to a 4-1 win over St. Norbert.

Logan Simpson - Midfield - Monmouth College
Junior - Groveland, Ill.
Simpson added five goals to his total in just two games last week to put Monmouth solidly in second place in the Midwest Conference. Simpson scored both of the Fighting Scots’ goals in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Grinnell. The junior’s two scores came just 10 minutes apart after Grinnell had scored the match’s first goal. He then recorded his second hat trick of the season, posting Monmouth’s game-winning goal in a 7-0 blanking of Knox Saturday. He leads the team with 12 goals as Monmouth improved to 7-4-2, their highest win total in nearly 10 years.

Jordan Wickman - Forward - Carroll University
Senior - Quinnesac, Mich.
Wickman led the Carroll University men’s soccer to a pair of wins last week to clinch the 2011 Midwest Conference Championship. Wickman netted two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-0 win over Monmouth College then earned an assist on the game-winner in a 4-0 victory over Grinnell College.

Tom Slusher - Midfield - Beloit College
Senior - Mt. Prospect, Ill.
Slusher secured Beloit’s spot in the MWC Tournament with two goals in less than five minutes in the Bucs’ 2-1 come-from-behind win at Monmouth College. The first goal, at 84:55, tied the game and came 1:38 after Monmouth had broken the scoreless tie. His second goal came with 55 seconds left. For the season he has seven goals and 15 points with three game-winning scores.
