2011 Outdoor Track Male Performers of the Week

April 5
Track
Logan Hohl - Monmouth College
Senior - Orion, Ill.
Hohl ran an automatic qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles and clocking a provisional time in the 110 hurdles. Running at the 24-team Washington Invitational where the Scots won the team competition, Hohl clocked the nation’s second-fastest time in the 400-hurdles at 52.64 to finish second in the race. Hohl placed third in the 110 hurdles with a personal-best and provisional time of 14.80. He also ran a leg on the second-place 4x400 relay which clocked a 3:18.57 and the third-place 4x100 team which turned in a 43.25.

Travis Towns - Beloit College
Junior - Janesville, Wis.
Towns won the Javelin at the University of Chicago Ted Haydon Invite on Saturday with a toss of 53.38m (175’1.57), besting the second-place finisher by nearly 15 feet. The effort ranks as the best in the MWC this season to date.

Cory Zimmerman - Ripon College
Sophomore - Grand Marsh, Wis.
Zimmerman finished first in the 800 meters at Saturday’s Carroll Invitational with a time of 1:55.53, which is the MWC’s top time in the event so far this season. He also ran a leg on the first-place 4x400 relay team, which set a new school record with a time of 3:21.70. That time is also tops in the conference for that event.

Adam Sellner - Ripon College
Sophomore - Barrington, Ill.
Sellner took first in the hammer throw at Saturday’s Carroll Invitational with a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 176-02.25, which is the top throw in the event in the Midwest Conference this season.

Dann Schneider - St. Norbert College
Senior - Wausau, Wis.
Schneider helped lead St. Norbert College to the men’s championship of the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational with two event wins. Schneider won the 400-meter dash with a sprint of 49.02 seconds, which is the fastest MWC time in that event this season. Schneider also ran a leg on the winning 4X400m relay team.

Tyler Hannam - Monmouth College
Sophomore - Woodhull, Ill.
Hannam has punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The senior high jumper won the event at the Augustana Meet of Champions last week by clearing the automatic standard. The defending outdoor national champion cleared 6’11” and has the top performance in the nation.

April 26

John Gerding - Illinois College
Freshman - Williamsville, Ill.
Gerding scored points in two events to help Illinois College to a first-place team finish at the Illinois College Mid-Week Invitational on April 20. Gerding won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.74 seconds, shaving more than a second off his seed time. Gerding also took third in the 100-meter dash, in a time of 11.43 seconds.

Caleb Cox - Illinois College
Freshman - Chatham, Ill.
Cox led Illinois College to a first-place team finish at the Mid-Week Invitational on April 20, thanks to a pair of first-place finishes. Cox won the triple jump with a leap of 13.29 meters. He also won the javelin throw with a toss of 50 meters. Cox took second place in the long jump with a mark of 6.56 meters.

Jordan Gobert - St. Norbert College
Senior - Rapid River, Mich.
Gobert ran season best times in the 100m dash, 400m dash and 100m Hurdles en route to an NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the Decathlon at the 2011 Gina Relays. Gobert who finished 2nd behind a Division I athlete is currently ranked 10th in the Nation in NCAA Division III.

Michael Blodgett - Monmouth College
Senior - Northfield, Minn.
Blodgett had a busy day at Saturday’s Loras Open. The senior recorded a career-bests to win the triple jump. His mark of 46’0-3/4” won by two full feet and improved his conference-leading mark. He also picked up a win in the long jump, soaring 21’3-1/2”. Blodgett wrapped up the day with a javelin throw of 152’6” to better his conference standing in the event by nearly 8’.

Logan Hohl - Monmouth College
Senior - Orion, Ill.
Hohl had an impressive day at last Saturday’s Monmouth Invitational. The senior clocked personal-bests in the two hurdles events, winning one and placing second in the other. Hohl won the 400-meter hurdles with a 51.98 which ranks him second nationally. He also finished second in the 110 hurdles after running a provisional time of 14.54 in the prelims. His 110 hurdles time is the sixth-best in the nation.

Nick Byom - Monmouth College
Senior - Gilson, Ill.
Byom made sure he’s be at the NCAA’s Outdoor Championships after a strong showing at last Saturday’s Monmouth Invitational. The senior tied for first in the high jump after clearing a personal- and national-best 6’11” to automatically qualify for the National Meet. Byom also palced fifth in the triple jump, leaping 41’3-1/4”.
