2010-11 Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

September 7
Cody Callender - Forward - Carroll University
Senior - Hawthorne Woods, Ill.
Callender is off to a hot start to her senior campaign. The forward posted a “hat trick” in CU’s 4-3 overtime win over MSOE in the opener then netted both goals in a 2-1 win over Aurora University. Her first strike against MSOE gave her 54 career goals, passing the program’s all-time mark of 53 goals set by Julia Bell. Callender now has 58 career goals and is three points shy of Bell’s all-time points record of 135.

September 13
Lisa Sorensen - Forward - Lake Forest College
Sophomore - Norton Shores, Mich.

Sorensen helped Lake Forest post a 3-0-0 record last week. She scored the first goal, assisted on the second, and scored the third in a 5-1 victory at Alverno College on Tuesday. After the Foresters defeated visiting MSOE 2-1 on Thursday, Sorensen recorded her second 5-point game of the week and third this season in a 5-0 triumph at home over Ripon on Saturday. She scored the only goal of the opening half, netted her seventh of the season early in the second, and assisted on a tally in the 59th minute to extend the home team’s lead to 3-0.

September 20
Arielle Dorrman - Forward - Knox College
Sophomore - Bothell, Was.

Dorman scored three goals in Knox College’s 8-0 victory last Wednesday at home against Lincoln Christian College. She added two more scores in a 7-1 win at MacMurray College on Saturday for the Prairie Fire’s second straight victory and an overall 4-3 record on the season. That eclipses last season’s win total, when Knox finished 2-13 overall. Dorman has six goals so far this season in just four matches played and 19 in her short career, placing her #6 all-time for goals scored in a career at Knox College.

September 27
Emma Swanson - Forward - Knox College
Junior - West Des Moines, Iowa

Swanson, found the back of the net in five consecutive matches, totaling nine goals during that span. Swanson scored all five of her team’s goals in the three matches Knox played last week: two in a 2-1 victory at Robert Morris University at Springfield, one in a 3-1 loss at home against Grinnell and two in a 3-2 OT defeat at Cornell University. Swanson, leads the Prairie Fire with 13 goals so far this season. She’s also tops on the team in assists (4) and points (30). Two of her goals have been game-winners.

October 4
Cody Callender - Forward - Carroll University
Senior - Hawthorn Woods, Ill.

Callender scored four goals last week to help the Carroll University women’s soccer team to wins over Beloit College (5-0), Monmouth College (4-1) and Illinois College (4-0). Callender’s two goal performance against Beloit on Thursday put her atop CU’s all-time points list, passing the mark of 135 career points previously held by Julia Bell. Earlier this season Callender passed Bell as the program’s all-time leader in goals. The wins improve Carroll to 7-3 overall, 3-0 in the Midwest Conference.

October 11
Carla Lopez - Midfielder - Illinois College
Junior - New Lenox, Ill.

Lopez scored 2 goals in Illinois College’s 2-2 tie against Beloit on Thursday. The game tying goal was scored with eight seconds to go in the game and sent the game into overtime. The tie secured the first point in women’s soccer for IC since 2007. On the season Lopez is second on the team with nine points and four goals.

October 18
Rachel Martzahl - Forward - Ripon College
Senior - New London, Wis.
Martzahl had a part in five of Ripon’s six goals scored last week. In a 5-3 loss to Grinnell, Martzahl scored twice and assisted on another goal. She followed that up with another two goals in a 3-1 victory over Knox College. Those four goals move Martzahl into third place on Ripon’s career goals list, giving her 31 goals as a Red Hawk.

October 25
Cody Callender - Forward - Carroll University
Senior - Hawthorn Woods, Ill.
Callender became the leading goal-scorer in Midwest Conference women’s soccer history when she netted a pair of goals in Carroll University’s 9-0 victory over Ripon College. The win over Red Hawks gave the Pioneers their second-consecutive MWC Championship. Callender’s 69 career goals passed the mark of 68 set by St. Norbert College’s Sara Gross.

November 1
Sarah Ehlinger - Forward - Lawrence University
Senior - Wauwatosa, Wis.
Ehlinger scored three goals, picked up a career-high three assists and recorded a career-best nine points as Lawrence routed Ripon 8-3 in its only action of the week. The victory allowed Lawrence to clinch a berth in the Midwest Conference Tournament for the second consecutive season. Ehlinger recorded her first hat trick of the season and the fourth of her career. The nine points is the second-highest game total in Lawrence history, trailing only the record of 12.
