2010-11 Football Offensive Player of the Week

September 7
Mitch Niekamp - Quarterback - Illinois College
Senior - Camp Point, Ill.

In a 42-31 loss to Millikin College Neikamp became the Blueboys all-time leader in passing yardage. The senior signal caller completed 36-of-54 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns. Niekamp found ten different receivers and tossed two fourth quarter touchdown passes to Brock Doehring and Mitchell Whightsil to keep the Blueboys in the contest. Niekamp now has thrown for 6,837 yards and 67 touchdown passes for Illinois College.

September 13
Brian Maughn - Quarterback - Beloit College
Junior - Sunrise, Fla.
In Saturday’s 34-31 win over St. Norbert College, Maughn was 28-36 with one interception, 357 yards passing and three TDs. His 28 completions broke the single-game record which he set last season against Illinois College (10/17/09). It was his sixth career 300-yard game, the second in as many games this season. It was also the seventh time he has thrown three touchdown passes in a game, including both games this season.
 

September 20
Logan Granera - Wide Receiver - Grinnell College
Sophomore - Keokuk, Iowa

Granera caught nine passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Grinnell’s 48-21 loss to Ripon in a battle of unbeaten teams Saturday. Granera’s yardage total ranks fifth-best in school history for a game. For the season, he has 19 catches for 350 yards and thee touchdowns. Granera’s averages 18.4 yards per catch which is tops in the conference and has topped 100 yards receiving in two of the Pioneers three contests this season.

September 27
Mike Bogard - Quarterback - Grinnell College
Junior - Brookfield, Wis.
Bogard completed 26-of-37 passes for 394 yards and four touchdowns in Grinnell’s 41-20 victory over Lake Forest College. Grinnell’s 478 total passing yards (Mike McCabe also had 84 yards) is the most by the Pioneers since a 510-yard effort against Lawrence University in 1994, and their 570 yards of total offense is the most since a 2003 game against Macalester College.

October 4
Cecil Brimmage - Running Back - Illinois College
Freshman - Moro, Ill.

Brimmage led Illinois College to their second conference win of the year by carrying the ball 34 times for 248 yards and three touchdowns, also catching three passes for 20 yards. Brimmage’s 248 yards were a MWC high for the season, surpassing the previous high by 102 yards. On the season Brimmage has carried the ball 56 times for 347 yards, a 6.2 yards per carry average. He also has 11 catches for 89 yards and a team-high eight kick returns for 155 yards.

October 11
Mitch Niekamp - Quarterback - Illinois College
Senior - Camp Point, Ill.

Niekamp was 25-of-39 with 246 yards passing yards and 2 touchdowns in the Blueboys 26-25 win over St. Norbert College on Saturday. The second of Niekamp’s touchdown tosses was the difference in the game, hitting Brett Eschman for a 20 yard touchdown pass with only 1:48 left in the game. On the season Niekamp is 133-of-227 for 1,434 yards and 12 touchdowns. His 1,434 yards are good for second in the MWC.

October 18
Clarke Cuthbert - Receiver - Illinois College
Senior - Camp Point, Ill.
Cuthbert had a banner day receiving against Illinois College Saturday in Jacksonville. He caught eight passes for 242 yards and a touchdown, which was the result of a 78-yard pass play, in IC’s 31-23 win. Cuthbert’s reception yardage against the Blueboys places him second all-time in Knox football history behind Chris Vogel’s 280 receiving yards on October 3, 1987 against Ripon College. Cuthbert’s average yards per catch against Illinois College – 30.3 - ranks third best in school history. His 242 receiving yards set a new MWC high for the season.

October 25
Mitch Niekamp - Quarterback - Illinois College
Senior - Camp Point, Ill.
Niekamp had a banner day in the Blueboys 40-35 win over Ripon on Saturday. Niekamp went 26-of-41 for 432 yards and four touchdowns. The 432 passing yards were the most by any MWC quarterback this season and ranks as the 14th most passing yards all-time in the MWC. He was an integral part of comeback that saw the Blueboys erase a 35-21 fourth quarter deficit. Niekamp hit Brock Thompson on a 98 yard touchdown pass to cut the Red Hawks lead to one then hit Brett Eschman with just over three minutes remaining for the winning score. On the season he has completed 173 passes for 2,053 yards and 18 touchdowns.

November 1
Rob Berger - Quarterback - St. Norbert College
Senior - Rice Lake, Wis.
Berger led St. Norbert to a 37-13 win over Ripon this past Saturday. Berger completed 15 of 18 passes for 258 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. In the first half as St. Norbert forged a 21-13 halftime lead, Berger was 8-for-8 for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Berger also rushed 12 times for 57 yards to lead an offense that never punted in the game.

November 8
Chris Casper - Quarterback - Carroll University
Senior - Manitowoc, Wis.
Casper threw a school-record six touchdown passes to lead the Carroll University football team to a 40-7 season-ending win over Grinnell College. The win raised Carroll’s record to 7-3 overall, 6-3 in the Midwest Conference, giving the Pioneers a 7-win season for just the 10th time in program history. Casper completed 18-of-29 passes for 293 yards. He threw four touchdown passes in the second quarter and two more in the third quarter in the Pioneers win.
