Beth Larson - Lawrence University

Larson was perfect during the opening week of action and knocked off the Midwest Conference’s defending No. 1 singles champion. Larson was 3-0 on the week at No. 1 singles and teamed with Jenny Roesch to go 3-0 at No. 1 doubles. Larson capped her week with a 6-0, 7-6 victory over Lake Forest’s Melika Celebic, who won the conference’s top singles title in 2009. Led by Larson, the Vikings defeated the Foresters 7-2. Larson posted a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles in Lawrence’s 9-0 win over Marian. She also won 6-0, 6-2 in singles in Lawrence’s 5-4 victory over Edgewood, the defending Northern Athletics Conference champion.
September 14
Melika Celebic - Lake Forest College
Sophomore - Visoko, Bosnia Herzegovina
Celebic won both of her matches at both #1 singles and #1 doubles last week. She triumphed 8-3 in doubles and 6-0, 6-3 in singles in an 8-1 victory at Benedictine University on Thursday. Celebic also prevailed 8-3 in doubles and 6-2, 6-4 in singles as the Foresters defeated defending league champion St. Norbert College 6-3 on Sunday.
September 21
Constanza Alarcon - Grinnell College
Sophomore - Guatemala City, Guatemala
Alarcon had a big week for the Pioneers, beginning with a come-from-behind singles win that was the deciding point in the Pioneers’ 5-4 non-conference victory over Central. She lost 7-6 in the first set at the 2nd spot, but then rattled off victories of 6-2 and 10-7 to lift Grinnell to the win. In four Midwest Conference South Division matches over the weekend, Alarcon was undefeated with three singles wins and two doubles victories. That helped the Pioneers win their eighth straight MWC South title and extended their winning streak in divisional play to 34 matches, dating back to 2002. For the season, Alarcon is 9-2 in singles play and 5-2 in doubles.
September 28
Alyssa Larson - Carroll University
Sophomore - Waunakee, Wis.
Sophomore Alyssa Larson went 4-0 on Saturday in leading the Carroll University women’s tennis team to victories over Monmouth College (9-0) and Knox College (8-1). Larson was 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. For the season Larson is 6-1 out of the No. 2 flight and is 4-4 paired with Kate Rasmussen out of the No. 1 flight in doubles play.
October 5
Gayatri Malhotra - Lawrence University
Freshman - Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Malhotra lost a total of five games in sweeping a pair of singles matches against Midwest Conference South Division rivals. Malhotra opened with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Monmouth’s Joi Henry. She teamed with Kat Valde for an 8-0 victory over Ashley Lawrence at Laura Harrison at No. 3 doubles. Lawrence defeated the Scots 8-1. In an 8-1 victory over Knox, Malhotra downed Molly Stein 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. She teamed with Valde for an 8-2 victory over Emily Tyl and Aimee Neilan at No. 3 doubles. On the season, Malhotra improved to 7-5 in singles and 6-5 in doubles.
October 12
Jennifer Roesch - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Cedarburg, Wis.
Roesch posted a perfect 4-0 week to lead Lawrence to to the Midwest Conference North Division title. Roesch went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. In a 6-3 victory over Ripon, Roesch won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and teamed with Beth Larson for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Lawrence clinched the division title with a 6-3 victory over St. Norbert, with Roesch posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory in singles and teaming with Larson for an 8-5 win in doubles. Roesch improved to 8-6 in singles and 12-3 in doubles on the season.
