Tina Johnson Accepts Position at Colorado College

Coach won three MWC titles in as many season at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, IL – Lake Forest College Head Softball Coach Tina Johnson announced Monday (July 24) that she will be leaving the College to accept a similar position at Colorado College.

Lake Forest posted a 24-15 overall record and a 10-3 mark in the Midwest Conference in 2006. The Foresters hosted the MWC Championship Tournament and claimed their fifth consecutive league title and third in as many years under Johnson. She was named MWC South Division Coach of the Year and her players claimed both MWC South Division Position Player and Pitcher of the Year honors. Six Foresters earned all-conference accolades, four were named all-region, and half of the 14-member roster was named Academic All-Midwest Conference.

Johnson took over the program after it had captured the previous two league titles and she helped extend the streak to five. She posted an overall record of 77-43-1 and a league mark of 30-9 at Lake Forest. Her players earned a total of 16 all-conference and 11 all-region awards and 29 current school records were established or matched during her tenure.

“It was an extremely difficult decision to leave the great people and players at Lake Forest College,” began Johnson. “But the opportunity to work in an athletic department that has a mix of Division I and Division III programs and is heading into conference play for the first time is a new and exciting challenge.”

“It’s always sad to see a valued member of our staff leave,” commented Lake Forest Athletic Director Jackie Slaats. “We’re very proud of what our softball program has accomplished over the last three years under her direction and I certainly wish Tina the best as she looks to build a successful program at Colorado College
