ZARLING NAMED BELOIT COLLEGE

HEAD SOFTBALL COACH

BELOIT, WI – Kim Zarling, a 14-year veteran of the coaching ranks and a Wisconsin native, has been named the Head Softball Coach at Beloit College. The announcement was made today by Director of Athletics Kim Chandler.

"This is an exciting day for the Beloit College softball program and I am pleased to welcome Kim Zarling into the Beloit College family," said Chandler. "Kim brings outstanding credentials and experience to our program and her passion for the game will serve our student-athletes exceptionally well. I am confident that she will build on the successes of the past and will lead the Buccaneer softball team into a promising future."

Zarling comes to Beloit after spending 12 seasons as the Head Softball Coach at the University of South Dakota. In those 12 seasons, she became the program’s all-time leader in victories with 325 while guiding her teams to 20-win seasons in ten of the 12 years. In 1998, she guided the team to a school-record 40-win season and earned North Central Conference and NFCA Division II North Central Region Coach of the Year honors.

Prior to taking the Head Coach position at South Dakota in 1995, she was an Assistant Softball Coach at Minnesota State-Mankato for two seasons.

"I’m very excited for this opportunity," said Zarling. "Beloit College has great leadership and does all the right things in developing and guiding young student-athletes. There are high standards in place both on the field and in the classroom."

A native of Omro, Wisconsin, and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Zarling was a four-year letterwinner for the Falcons. During her senior season, as team captain, she helped lead the squad to a #7-ranking in NCAA Division III while hitting .325 with a team-high 27 RBI. She earned team MVP and All-WIAC honors at the end of the season

"I’m anxious to get to Beloit," Zarling said. "I’m looking to give stability to the Softball program. My main goal is to build the team into one that competes for Midwest Conference championships on a yearly basis."
