Week #1: April 2

Jenny Burris
Lawrence

Burris, a sophomore shortstop from Gurnee, Ill.(Warren Township) batted an impressive .432, as the Vikings posted a 5-5 record at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., last week. Burris went 16-for-37 with eight runs scored while hitting in the lead-off position. Burris, who belted her second career homer in a 13-1 win over M.I.T., swiped 16 bases in 17 attempts in the ten games.

Nancy Findeisen
Lake Forest

A sophomore pitcher from Beecher, Illinois (Beecher HS), Findeisen has carried Lake Forest to a 6-6 start to the 2002 season. She is 4-2 with a 0.51 ERA and batters are hitting just .119 against her. In 41 innings, she has allowed only 16 hits and 4 walks while striking out 40. All four of her wins are shutouts and include a no-hitter, a one-hitter, and a 1-0 blanking of Muskingum College, last year's NCAA Division III National Champion.

Week #2: April 9

Eva Klamann
Carroll

Klamann, a senior catcher from South Milwaukee, Wis., (South Milwaukee HS) hit .500 (3 of 6) in Carroll's double-header sweep on the road at Ripon this weekend. The senior knocked in the winning run in game one with a single in the top of the 8th inning. Klamann also had an RBI in game two.
 

Dinah Zebot
Grinnell

Zebot, a junior from Grosse Point, Mich., led Grinnell to a perfect 4-0 record last weekend. The third baseman went 7-for-16 (.437) with two RBIs and five runs scored in the tournament. Zebot keyed a five-run rally with a run-scoring single in the win over UW-River Falls and scored in all three plate appearances against MN-Morris. Zebot also went 3-for-6 in a pair of one-run wins against William Penn and NE-Wesleyan.

Chris Laurine
Lake Forest

Laurine, a senior right fielder from Richmond, Ill., (Richmond-Burton HS), went 5-for-7 at the plate with four runs scored and three RBIs as Lake Forest defeated Illinois C. in two MWC matchups last week.

Week #3: April 16

Adrienne Davis
Beloit

Davis, a sophomore from Wooster, Ohio, had a great weekend at the five MWC Classic games. Davis went 6 for 12 at the plate with a triple and two homers. The sophomore also had four RBI. In Beloit’s two wins, Davis was 4 for 6 at the plate with four RBI, her triple, and the two homeruns. For the week including a divisional doubleheader versus Carroll, Davis was 9 for 18 at the plate with 6 RBI’s.
 

Tasha Edwards
Illinois C.

Edwards, a sophomore infielder/designated hitter from Polo, Ill., batted an impressive .667 at the MWC Classic last weekend. The sophomore went 8 for 12 in the tournament with a home run, two doubles, a stolen base and 4 RBI’s. Edwards blasted a three-run, game-winning homer in a 6-5 win over St. Norbert. She also went 2 for 2 with a double against Carroll and 3 for 3 with a double against Beloit. Edwards currently leads the Lady Blues with a .365 batting average and a .481 slugging percentage.

Week #4: April 23

Andrea Leystra
St. Norbert

Leystra, a sophomore picher from Mayville, Wis., led the Green Knights on the mound as they wrapped up a spot in the MWC Tournament. In three games, Leystra posted a 2-1 record with a 0.58 ERA. The sophomore allowed just two earned runs in 24.1 innings with six walks and 19 strikeouts. St. Norbert downed Ripon and Carroll in key MWC wins, while losing a nine-inning game to CCIW frontrunner Carthage.

Leigh Anne Furgerson
Lake Forest

Furgerson, a sophomore pitcher from Carmel, Ind. (Westfield HS), ran her personal winning streak to six-straight games with three complete-game victories this week. The Foresters held North Central College, the 13th-ranked team in the nation, to an unearned run on three hits in a 2-1 victory. Over Aurora University, the sophomore collected seven strikeouts. Against Monmouth, Furgerson struck out four and allowed just one unearned run on six hits. In 21 innings this week, she was 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA and struck out 13 batters while walking just one.

Week #4: April 23

Lauren Kost
Lawrence University

Kost, a first-year pitcher from Carol Stream, Ill. (Glenbard North HS), helped Lawrence win its first North Division title since 1999 with a pair of wins this past week. Kost earned a 3-0 win over Ripon College, her third shutout of the year, and a 6-3 victory over Beloit College. For the week, the first-year pitcher was 2-0 with a 1.29 earned run average. Kost pitched 14 innings, striking out 11 and walking one.

Shelly Orwig
Monmouth

Junior pitcher Shelly Orwig from Wyoming, Ill. (Stark County HS), played a big role in helping the Fighting Scots secure their fourth consecutive berth in the MWC playoffs. In the first win over Illinois C., Orwig hurled a three-hit shutout. The junior then entered the nightcap with Monmouth behind 3-1, shutting down the Lady Blues on three hits and a walk while striking out five. Monmouth rallied to win the game 5-4, giving Orwig her second victory of the day.
