Lake Forest headed to National Championship
Midwest Conference Champion Lake Forest successfully defended their #1 regionally ranking by going 3-0 and earning a berth into the 2002 NCAA Division III National Championship in Eau Claire, Wis. The Foresters defeated Benedictine for the second time in the tournament 2-0 thanks to a two-hitter by L.A. Furgerson.

Championship Tournament, which will be held in Eau Claire, Wis.

Lake Forest was powered by three home runs in the championship game as they defeated South Division rival Monmouth 8-0 in 5 innings to claim the 2002 MWC Championship and the MWC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
