2019 MWC Cross Country Championship Preview

GRINNELL, Iowa — The 2019 Midwest Conference (MWC) Cross Country Championships are set for Saturday, November 2 at the Oak Run Public Golf Course in Dahinda, Illinois.
 
Knox College will be this year’s host as all ten MWC institutions will compete for the MWC Cross Country Championship crown. The men will run the 8-kilometer course at 11:00 a.m. and the women will run the 6-kilometer course at 12:00 p.m.
 
Entering the Conference Championship for the men, Grinnell College junior Matt Lieberman has the league’s fastest 8K time this season with Lawrence University senior Joe Kortenhof just a half second behind in second place. Ranked third, fourth, and fifth to round out this season’s fastest times are Cornell College sophomore Aaron Davidson, Monmouth College junior Griff Morrill and Lake Forest College senior Philip Wilson.
 
On the women’s side, St. Norbert College spent three weeks ranked in the top ten regionally by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association. In the Midwest Region the Green Knights kicked off week one ranked fifth, week two ranked seventh and finally tenth in week three.
 
Leading the league with the fastest 6K time headed into the championship is Lake Forest College junior Yaneli Guajardo with Grinnell College senior Mikayla Fujiwara just 0.06 seconds behind in second place. Rounding out the top five are Lake Forest College freshman Madeline Morland in third, Beloit College senior Frances Knaggs in fourth and Grinnell College sophomore Emma Schaefer in fifth.
