GRINNELL, Iowa – Lake Forest College’s Michelle Greeneway, a two-sport star in soccer and ice hockey, has been named the 2016 Midwest Conference (MWC) Woman of the Year and the league’s nomination for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

NCAA member colleges and universities nominated 517 student-athletes – the most ever in the history of the program – for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year award.  Greeneway is one of 141 conference honorees and one of just 51 from Division III.

Now in its 26th year, the Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate career in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

On the soccer field, Greeneway is one of the best players in MWC women’s soccer history, as she etched her name in the league record books in a number of categories.  She is one of just three players in conference history to score 30 goals in a season, doing so in both her junior and senior seasons.  The Forester scored the most game-winning goals in a season in 2014 (11).  She ranks second all-time with 104 goals scored, second in points scored (240), second in game-winning goals (29) and eighth with 32 assists.

A First Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American in 2014, Greeneway racked up a number of individual honors in her career.  She was a two-time MWC Offensive Player of the Year and a four-time First Team All-MWC selection.  Greeneway was also named First Team All-North Region by the NSCAA from 2013-15.

Greeneway led the Foresters to three MWC titles in four seasons, including back-to-back undefeated conference campaigns in 2014 and 2015.
“Micky was a special kid,” said Lake Forest women’s soccer coach T.R. Bell. “I'm not sure I'll ever coach another player with such raw athletic ability, passion, and pure love to compete.  On the field, in the classroom, and across our campus she was a leader and someone everyone in the Midwest Conference could be proud of.”

A finance major and a four-time Academic All-MWC honoree, Greeneway was twice named a Capital One Academic All-District and All-American.  The Lake Forest graduate was also named to the North Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) All-Academic Team three times.

Despite her dominance on the pitch, Greeneway might have been more impressive on the ice.  Greenway was selected as an All-American three times in hockey by the American Hockey Coaches Association and led the nation last year with 33 goals.  The two-time NCHA Player of the Year, was a four-time all-conference recipient. She also holds school records for career points (152), goals (103) and game-winning goals (20).  She also holds the top two marks for goals in a season (33 and 29) and is third on the career list with 49 assists.

Off the court, Greeneway was a member of the Young Alumni Challenge Committee and a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Society.  She was also volunteered for a number of campus events including the Lake Forest College Relay for Life, Ry’s Run and the annual “The Sleds Are Coming” event.  Greeneway also found time to volunteer with Feed My Starving Children and the Special Olympics.  She also served as a tutor at North Chicago Elementary school.

In August, the top ten honorees per division will be announced for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. In September, the field of 30 semifinalists will be narrowed to three per division. The top ten honorees and the nine finalists from Divisions I, II and III will be honored and the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced at a dinner in Indianapolis in October.
