GRINNELL, Iowa – Monmouth College’s women’s track and field team is gunning for its 10
th consecutive Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships and has opened a sizeable lead over second-place Grinnell College.

Monmouth earned 68 points on Friday, while Grinnell scored 40. St. Norbert College is in control of third with 39 points, while Cornell College (29) and Carroll (20) finish the top-five.
Raven Robinson broke the meet record in the shot put with a 46’10” toss, an effort that places her eighth in all of NCAA Division III. Robinson’s teammate Erin Maul came in second in the event with a 46’4” toss.
Morgan Ryan of Monmouth took top honors in the pole vault after clearing 11’6 ¼”. Lawrence University’s Sofie Yang took third in the pole vault (10’1/2”) and earned all of the Vikings’ six points.
Ryan is also the top qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles (15.80) and teammate Alyssa Edwards also tops the qualifiers for tomorrow’s 400-meter hurdle final (1:05.82).
Also breaking a conference record on Friday was Grinnell’s Sarah Burnell. Burnell cruised to victory in 4:35.44, breaking the old record of 4:35.48 set by Nicole Cueno of Grinnell set in 2001. Burnell also won the event in 2012. Fellow Pioneer Eloise Miller captured the long jump after leaping 17’8 ¼”. Christine Ajinjeru is also the top qualifier for the Pioneers in the 400-meter dash (56.06).
Illinois College’s Brittney Burgess launched the javelin 111’9” to repeat as conference champion. Lady Blue teammate Chimdiofuma Eze-Echesi is the top qualifier in the 100-meter dash (12.45) and the 200-meter dash (25.32).
Elvia Martinez earned 10 big points for St. Norbert after the senior won the 10,000-meter run by nearly 20 seconds. Laura Ettlin of Cornell College was the top-finisher for the Rams. She finished second in the 10,000-meter run (38:46.55) to pick up eight points. Krista Greene of Carroll University finished second in the pole vault (11’1/4”).
Beloit College’s Felicia Carlson had the second-fastest qualifying time in the 100-meter dash (12.46) and the 200-meter dash (25.44). Lydia Pomeroy’s fifth place finish for Ripon College in the shot put (41’5 ¾”) was the top-finish for the Red Hawks.
