Game 5 – [St. Norbert 3, Monmouth 1]

Game 6 – [Lake Forest 3, St. Norbert 0]

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – For the first time since 2006 Lake Forest is the Midwest Conference Softball Champion. The Foresters went a perfect 3-0 over the championship weekend highlighted by a 3-0 win over St. Norbert in the championship game to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

St. Norbert stayed alive in the tournament in an elimination game against Monmouth. The Green Knights won that first game 3-1 for a chance to play in the championship game. Due to the championship tournament being double elimination St. Norbert would need to beat Lake Forest twice, but the second championship game was not needed.

Lake Forest jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over St. Norbert in the championship game and never looked back. In the third inning Lake Forest platted two runs on three hits highlighted by run scoring singles from Sally Snarski and Alex Hemmer.

Kayla Borgra added on an insurance run for the Foresters in the fifth inning when she homered to right centerfield to leadoff the inning. Jessi Werner shut down St. Norbert the rest of the way for the Lake Forest win.

Werner held St. Norbert to only two hits in a complete game shutout. The two hits came from a third inning single by JoAnna Ruppa and a two out single in the sixth from Tayler Long. All told Werner struck out 10 and walked two.

The Lake Forest offense gathered nine hits led by Borgra, Snarski, and Hemmer who each had a pair of hits.

The championship is the seventh in school history for Lake Forest. The Foresters also earned the MWC automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will find out their opponent on May 5.
