Grinnell Men, Lake Forest Women, Lead After Day Two Of Swimming Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa – After two days at the 2013 Midwest Conference (MWC) Swimming & Diving Championships not many things have changed at the top as both the Lake Forest women and Grinnell men holds leads entering the last day of competition. 

The Lake Forest women’s team earned 638.50 points through two days of competition and lead runner-up Grinnell by only 28.5 points. The Grinnell men chalked up 633 points in two days and leads second place Lake Forest by 87 points.

Five more conference records were broken on Saturday which included the Lake Forest women’s and Grinnell men 800 freestyle teams while the Grinnell men’s 200 medley relay team also set a new conference time that earned a NCAA “B” cut. Individually Garr Punnett set a record in the 100 butterfly, also earning a NCAA “B” cut while Alex Mishun broke his own record in the men’s 1-meter dive.

Other swimmers that earned NCAA “B” cut times on the day were: Becky Shaak (Lake Forest, 400 individual medley), Beck Ringdahl-Mayland (Grinnell, 100 breaststroke), Alex Marks (Lake Forest, 100 breaststroke), Kelsie Miller (Lake Forest, 100 backstroke), and Garr Punnett (100 backstroke), Hayley Lavin (Grinnell, 400 individual medley), Michael Brus (Grinnell, 200 freestyle), Kevin Barbrick (Lake Forest, 100 breaststroke).

The list of the divers that qualified for the NCAA Regionals include: Samantha Gardner (Lake Forest), Christina Pekar (Lake Forest), Sarah Pekar (Lake Forest), Alex Mishun, Daniel Goldstein (Grinnell), Matt Perry (Lake Forest), Matt Woodson (Illinois Col.).
