RIPON, Wis. - The awards and accolades continue to pile up for senior forward Aris Wurtz, as he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team on Thursday, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. A Political Science and Government major, Wurtz is one of just seven players out of the 167 selections across four divisions and eight districts to hold a cumulative GPA of 4.0.
This marks the second consecutive season that Wurtz has been named to the Academic All-District First Team. Last year, he also earned Academic All-American status. Wurtz has also earned Academic All-Conference honors in each of the past two years, which are the only two he has been eligible for that award.
The only player from the Midwest Conference to earn First-team Academic All-District honors this season, Wurtz will now be placed on the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Wurtz has been just as effective on the court this season as he has been in the classroom. He currently ranks second in the MWC in scoring with 24.9 points per game and is sixth in the league in rebounding with 6.6 boards per contest. He also ranks in the top 10 in field goal percentage (.508), 3-point percentage (.463) and free throw percentage (.838). In his Red Hawk career, Wurtz ranks fourth in school history in both scoring (1,696) and rebounding (548), while ranking fifth in 3-pointers (135).
