Carroll, Zuleger, Win Titles At 2012 Women's Golf Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – For the fourth straight season Carroll ended the season op top as they captured the title at the 2012 Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championship at The Rail Golf Course. The Pioneers shot a third day 342 which was the best among the six teams and completed the three days with a score of 692.

Grinnell finished the three day event only ten shots back with a 702 after shooting a 350 on the final 18 holes. Monmouth finished third in the championship with a score of 715 and was followed by Illinois Col. with a score of 777. St. Norbert and Knox rounded out the field with scores of 783 and 855, respectively.
Not only did Carroll take home the team title but they also captured another individual title as Morgan Zuleger shot a 169 over the three days including Sunday’s best round of 80. Zuleger finished three shots better than runner-up Mallory Messin (Grinnell) who shot an 86 on the final day and finished with a 172. Autumn Neuhring (Carroll) was the third place winner with a 173 and was followed by a pair of Grinnell golfers, Alex Plemmons (177) and Stephanie Spahr (177) in fourth and fifth. Alexis Lintker (Illinois Col.) shot a 178 to finish in sixth with Lauren Felton (Carroll), Hailey Speck (Grinnell) and Angelina Parrinello (Carroll) finishing seventh through ninth. Ripon’s Abby Fish rounded out the championship round by shooting a 180.

Tied scores in the individual portion of the championship were broken in a scorecard playoff. The total from the last nine holes on the scorecard broke any ties.

Molly McNamara was also named the 2012 Women’s Golf Coach of the Year.

With the championship win the Pioneers earn the MWC bid to the NCAA Championships which take place May 14-17, 2013 at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.
