Monmouth Claims Sweep of 2011 Outdoor Track Championships

MONMOUTH, Ill. – With wins on both the men’s and women’s side the Monmouth Fighting Scots have now swept the competition for the last seven years at the 2011 Midwest Conference Track and Field Championships.
On the women’s side the Fighting Scots bested St. Norbert by 148.5 points for the championship. Grinnell finished in third place with 88.5 points which was just ahead of Carroll who scored 82 points. Illinois C. and Ripon were in a close fight for fifth and sixth place with the Lady Blues scoring 62 points, only five points better than the Red Hawks. Beloit, Lawrence and Knox rounded out the women’s field.
Monmouth won on the men’s side with 225.5 points, which was 85.5 points better than runner up Ripon. The Grinnell men matched their female counterparts with a third place finish but did so by only point over St. Norbert and only 19 more than fifth place Illinois C. Carroll stood alone in sixth place with 64.5 points while Beloit, Knox and Lawrence rounded out the nine team field.
Overall 27 individual awards were given out on the final day of action with the following champions being crowned:
