Grinnell's Griffin Lentsch Sets NCAA D-III Single Game Scoring Record

Grinnell junior guard Griffin Lentsch set at new NCAA Division-III single game scoring record on Saturday afternoon when he scored 89 points in a 145-97 win for the Pioneers.

The 89 points broke the previous record of 77 points which was held by Grinnell's Jeff Clement in a game against Illinois C. on February 18, 1998. Lentsch now ranks third over all three divisions for most points in a game only trailing Clarence “Bevo” Francis who scored 113 points for Divisoin-II Rio Grande and Frank Selvy who scored 100 points for Division-I Furman. Both Francis and Selvy set the records in the 1954 season.

Lentsch was 27-of-55 from the field while shooting 15-of-33 from behind the arc in 36 minutes of action. His 89 points included a near perfect 20-of-22 from teh free throw line.
