Carroll Wins Third Straight Women's Golf Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – For the third straight season Carroll captured the MWC Women’s Golf Championship which was played at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Ill. The Pioneers shot a three day low score of 1,005 which included a third day best 330 and edged out Grinnell by 23 shots.
Carroll improved their championship total over the last three season after shooting 1,105 in 2009 and a 1,077 last season. Grinnell shot a three day total of 1,028 which was 87 shots better than last season when they finished in third place overall. Ripon improved one spot from a season ago with a three day total of 1,107 and Monmouth finished in fourth place with a score of 1,123. St. Norbert (1,172), Knox (1,367) and Illinois C. (1,399) round out the seven team field over the three day weekend.
Carroll junior Angelina Parrinello held on with a third day low score of 79 to claim the individual championship with a three day total of 237. Carroll captured four other MWC All-Conference honors by claiming top-10 finishes. Erin Sullivan shot a three day total of 252 to finish in fourth place while Morgan Zuleger shot a 255 to end in fith place. Lauren Felton and Brooke Berkenpas shot 267 and 267, respectively to finish behind Zuleger in sixth and seventh place. Grinnell had four players named All-Conference led by runner up Mallor Messin with a three day total of 245. Elizabeth Burnett finished in third with a 251 while Alex Plemmons (9th, 269) and Hailey Speck (10th, 272) also finished in the top-10. Knox’s Mia Savard was the only non-Pioneer to crack the top-10 with a three day total of 267 to sit in eighth place.
Grinnell Head Coach David Arseneault was voted the 2011 MWC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year after the Pioneers finished just 23 shots out of the top spot and improved an impressive 87 strokes from last season.
With the win Carroll earns the MWC automatic bid into the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament which will take place May 10-13 at the Mission Inn Resort & Club, El Campeon Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
