2008 Performers of the Week
 
     
Week 1: February 19, 2008
Rocky Tektumanidze - Lake Forest College
Junior - Riverwoods, Ill./Deerfield

Tektumanidze posted a pair of convincing victories in Lake Forest’s season-opening 8-1 victory at Marian on Sunday morning. The junior teamed with sophomore Alex Presman for an 8-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles and followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top spot in the singles lineup.
 
Week 2: February 26, 2008
Dan LaFountaine - Grinnell College
Junior - St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo

LaFountaine combined to go a perfect 6-for-6 in singles and doubles action last week, with all six victories coming in the No. 1 flight. He scored No. 1 singles wins over the top players from UW-Oshkosh, Carroll and Augustana. In doubles play, he teamed with junior Nate Fox for three more victories against the same three foes’ top tandems. The Pioneers defeated UW-Oshkosh (7-2) and Carroll (9-0), but dropped a close contest to Augustana (5-4). LaFountaine is 3-1 in singles action this season and has yet to lose in doubles play with Fox (4-0).
 
Week 3: March 4, 2008
Kevin Kamenjarin - Monmouth College
Senior - Alsip, Ill./Marist

Kamenjarin staged a tremendous comeback Saturday playing at No. 2 singles against Cornell’s Jay Welvaert. Kamenjarin dropped the first set 6-7 in a tie-breaker to Welvaert, who had played No. 1 singles prior to the Monmouth match, and was down 5-2 in the second before staging his rally. The senior battled back to win the set 7-5 and then won the match with a 10-4 decision in the third set. Kamenjarin also teamed with Kyle Korb to win at No. 1 doubles (8-2).
 
Week 4: March 11, 2008
Jared Katchen - Knox College
Sophomore - Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg

Katchen won his singles and doubles matches to lead Knox to a 5-4 win over Greenville on Saturday. The sophomore won a 6-0, 6-4 decision at the top singles spot and teamed with senior Lance Hoffman to earn an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Playing in the No. 1 spots this season, Katchen is currently 2-1 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action.
 
Week 5: March 18, 2008
Ryan Dunn - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac

In Lawrence’s only action of the week, Dunn beat MSOE’s Mark Schadler 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Dan Hertel for an 8-0 win over Taylor Pfenning and Mitch Paulus at No. 1 doubles. The Vikings beat the Raiders 6-3 and Dunn ran his win streak at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to six matches. Dunn is 7-2 overall in singles and doubles this season.
 
Week 6: March 25, 2008
Nick Craig - Knox College
Junior - Verona, Wis./Wayland Academy

Craig won all five of his matches at No. 5 singles, including a victory over NCAA Division II Augustana (SD) College, last week on the team’s spring trip to Orlando, Florida. Three of the junior’s five wins came in third set super-tiebreakers, as he improved to 8-0 in singles action on the season. Craig also teamed with Matthew Stockov to win three matches at No. 3 doubles, helping Knox earn victories over Augustana (5-4), Hamline (7-2) and Otterbein (8-1). Craig and his Prairie Fire teammates are one victory away from reaching the team win total from a year ago.
 
Week 7: April 1, 2008
Juan Carlos Perez - Grinnell College
Freshman - Quito, Ecuador/Martim Cerere

Perez posted three singles victories at the No. 2 flight last week, downing opponents from St. Ambrose, Lake Forest and Illinois College as the Pioneers went 3-0 as a team and opened MWC play with a 2-0 mark. Perez pushed his season mark to 11-1 in singles play and now has a 9-3 doubles record after teaming with D.J. Warden and Sam Raife for a pair of No. 2 doubles wins vs. the Fighting Bees and Foresters, respectively, last week.
 
Week 8: April 8, 2008
Alex Presman - Lake Forest College
Sophomore - Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield

Presman helped lead the Foresters to a 4-0 team record last week, including an MWC South win over Monmouth. Presman prevailed 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles during an 8-1 triumph over the Scots on Saturday morning and came back to record victories by identical scores in the same flights against Carroll (9-0) in the afternoon. Sunday morning he did not surrender a game at No. 1 doubles or No. 1 singles in a 9-0 sweep of Rockford. In the afternoon, he won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles during an 8-1 victory over Elmhurst. The sophomore was 8-0 on the weekend and outscored his opponents 80 games to 19.
 
Week 9: April 15, 2008
Ben Sweeney - Ripon College
Senior - Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood

Sweeney netted a pair of critical points for the Red Hawks in their 5-4 conference-opening victory at Carroll on Saturday. Against the Pioneers, the senior won his No. 2 singles match by defeating Michael Wajda 6-1, 6-1. He then teamed up with Dave Czarnecki to win number the No. 1 doubles match by a score of 8-3. The win marked Ripon’s 16th consecutive conference victory.
 
Week 10: April 22, 2008
Dan Hertel - Lawrence University
Junior - Sheboygan, Wis./North

Hertel went undefeated in singles and doubles play last week to help Lawrence earn its first berth in the MWC Team Championship tourney since 2003. The junior posted a 3-0 record at No. 3 singles and teamed with Ryan Dunn to go 3-0 at No. 1 doubles. Hertel provided the winning point in Lawrence’s 5-4 victory over Ripon on April 18 in dramatic fashion. After losing the first set 6-1 to Ben Sweeney, he rebounded for a 6-2 second set win and then rallied from a 5-1 deficit to take the third and final set 7-5 in a tiebreaker. He topped his singles opponents from the Bucs and Pioneers by scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-3, respectively. Hertel and Dunn downed the top tandems from Ripon, Beloit and Carroll by identical scores of 8-4.
