Ripon Repeats as Midwest Conference Champions

BELOIT, Wis. -- Ripon College won its third consecutive Midwest Conference men's soccer championship by defeating Beloit 2-0 on November 7. The victory advances the Red Hawks, now 12-6, into the NCAA Division III tournament play, earning them the MWC's first-ever automatic bid. The loss was the fourth straight title-game setback for the Buccaneers (11-7).

Erik Johnson tallied the only goal of the first half and Brian Bale provided the insurance score with 20 minutes to play. Red Hawk goalie Phil Serna had 24 saves. Beloit had defeated Ripon 3-1 nine days earlier to earn first place in the final regular season standings and earned the right to host the conference tournament. The Bucs defeated Lake Forest 2-1 while Ripon topped Grinnell 1-0 in semi-final games on November 6.

Ripon will face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 10) in Whitewater in the first round of the NCAA Division III championship tournament.
