|
Christian Forsmo
- Forsmo, a senior midfielder from Monona
Grove, WI (Monona Grove H.S.), scored
both of Carroll's goals, including the
game-winner in double overtime, during
a 2-1 victory over Concordia University
(WI) during the Pioneers season finale.
Carroll improved their overall record
to to 8-8 with the win.

Mark Allen
|
Mark Allen, Monmouth
- Allen, a first-year center midfielder
from Milan, Ill., (Sherrard H.S.), scored
five goals in three matches as Monmouth
compiled a 1-1-1 record last week. During
Saturday's 4-0 win over Lawrence, Allen
recorded three goals. The following day,
which ended in a 1-1 tie with St. Norbert,
he had the Scots only goal. Earlier in
the week, Allen scored the game-tying
(2-2) goal in an eventual 3-2 loss to
Illinois Wesleyan.

Phil Serna
|
Phil Serna, Ripon
College - Serna, a senior goalkeeper
from Oregon, Wis., (Oregon HS), had two
shutout wins for Ripon over a two-game
stretch on Saturday and Sunday, including
a shutout win over Grinnell in a game
that clinched the regular season title
for Ripon. Serna had a combined total
of seven saves in the two victories and
Ripon went undefeated in regular season
MWC play.

For the Week of: Oct. 15

Dan Carver
|
Dan Carver, Lake Forest
- Carver scored four goals during Lake
Forest's two Midwest Conference games
last week. During a 3-1 win over Monmouth
on Saturday, Carver scored the opening
goal in the fourth minute and added an
insurance goal in the 86th minute after
MC had cut the Foresters lead to a single
goal. Carver scored the game's first goal
again, this time in the 36th minute, on
Sunday during a 6-0 win over Illinois
College. He also scored in the 50th minute.
Carver has scored at least one goal in
all six MWC games he has played this season,
including four games with two goals.

Brett Cullen
|
Brett Cullen, Beloit
- Cullen, a junior defender, helped the
resurgent Bucs post key 3-1 and 3-0 conference
victories over Illinois College and Monmouth
last weekend. Cullen drew tough assignments
against both teams' best offensive players
but held them scoreless. The Prairie DuSac,
Wis., native also scored an unassisted
goal against Monmouth on Sunday. Beloit,
which improved to 5-6 overall, 4-4 in
league play, earns its' second straight
POW honor.

Matthew Schmitz, Ripon
- Schmitz, a first-year forward, scored two
goals during a 5-0 Ripon win over Lawrence last
Wednesday, and added another goal in a 4-1 win
over St. Norbert on Saturday. Ripon currently
sits atop the MWC with a 7-0-0 mark.

Josh Perlberg
|
Josh Perlberg, Beloit
- Perlberg, a goalkeeper for the Buccaneers,
made 27 saves during the course of the week
as the Bucs went 2-1 in three matches. He made
seven saves against Rockford College as Beloit
beat the 7th-ranked team in the Midwest region
at the time, 4-1. He then made ten saves in
a 3-1 victory over Knox on Saturday and another
10 saves in a 3-0 loss to Lake Forest on Sunday.

Dan Carver

Dan Carver, Lake Forest College
-- A first-year forward from Deerfield, Ill.,
Carver led Lake Forest to a 2-0 record for the week.
Saturday he scored on two of eight shots in the 6-0
win over Lawrence. Sunday, Carver registered ten shots
and one assist in the win against UW-Platteville.

Matt Spurlin, Lake Forest College
- Senior
defender Matt Spurlin earnes this week's MWC Soccer
Defensive Player of the Week. Matt anchored a defense
that shut out Lawrence on Saturday 6-0, holding them
to just 5 shots (1 on goal). On Sunday Lake Forest
also defeated UW-Platteville 3-1.

Erik Johnson

Erik Johnson, Ripon College
-- Erik Johnson, a senior midfielder from Waukesha,
WI (Pewaukee High School), led Ripon to two MWC victories
last week. During the Red Hawks 6-2 win over Illinois
College on Saturday and 4-1 win over Monmouth on Sunday,
Johnson totaled three goals and three assists.

Davin Dahl

Davin Dahl, Grinnell College --A
senior goalkeeper from Lakewood, CO, Dahl allowed just
one goal in three home matches last week, helping the
Grinnell College men's soccer team improve to 6-2 on
the season. Dahl played every minute of all three matches.
He posted seven saves in Thursday's 2-0 win over Central,
four saves in a 3-1 conference win over St. Norbert
on Saturday, and made one save in a 2-0 victory over
Lawrence on Sunday.

For the Week of: Sept. 17

Steve Teisl
|
Steve Teisl, Lake Forest College
-- Teisl, a freshman midfielder from Chardon, OH,
led Lake Forest to two Midwest Conference road wins over
the weekend. On Saturday (September 16th), Teisl picked
an opportune time to score his first career goal. In the
game's 10th minute, Teisl found the back of the net. The
goal proved to be the game's only score as Lake Forest
held on for a 1-0 win over St. Norbert. The following
afternoon at Knox, Teisl scored in the 46th minute to
tie the score at 1-1. The Foresters went on to defeat
Knox, 2-1. The two wins helped LF bounce back from an
0-2-0 start to the season and improved their MWC record
to 2-1-0.

Ed Elliot

Ed Elliot, Lake Forest College --
A sophomore goalkeeper, Ed allowed just one goal in two
games for the week; shutting out St. Norbert, 1-0, on
Saturday...allowed one goal in a 2-1 win at Knox on Sunday...stopped
a penalty kick versus Knox...seven saves versus St. Norbert...two
saves versus Knox...improved his goals against average
to 1.43 for the season...helped Lake Forest bounce back
from an 0-2-0 start with back-to-back MWC road wins this
week...Lake Forest is currently 2-2-0 overall and 2-1-0
in the MWC.

Steve Gray, Monmouth -- Steve
Gray, a junior from Princeton, IL, has been named the season's
first Midwest Conference men's soccer offensive player of
the week. Gray led Monmouth to wins in each of their three
matches to open the year. He scored two goals in the Scots'
season-opening 3-0 win over Central (IA) and tacked on another
goal during Monmouth's MWC-opening 2-1 win over Grinnell,
the pre-season coaches poll pick to finish third in the
league. The Scots also knocked off Cornell (IA), 4-2. Gray's
seven points is tops on the team.

David Perkins, St. Norbert
-- St. Norbert goalkeeper David Perkins earns this week's
Defensive Player of the Week selection in men's soccer after
helping the Green Knights post a 3-2 upset win over defending
regular-season conference champion Beloit last Thursday.
Perkins also recorded a 2-0 shutout against Cardinal Strich
two days later in the CSU tournament and finished the weekend
with a 2-1 victory over Loras on Sunday. The Racine, Wisconsin
native was named the top goaltender in the Cardinal Strich
tournament and helped St. Norbert improve to 3-2 on the
season.
