2008 Performers of the Week

Week 1: April 1, 2008
David Marquardt - Knox College
Senior - Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington

Marquardt shot a 145 to finish second at the Prairie Fire Classic on March 28 and 29 at the Soangetaha Country Club. The senior finished one shot behind the individual medalist and fired the top 18-hole round in the MWC this season with his Friday one-under par 71, the lone under-par round of the tournament. Marquardt followed with a 74 on Saturday to help Knox to a ninth-place team finish in the 15-team field.

Week 2: April 8, 2008
Mike McCormick - Carroll College
Senior - Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna

The Carroll men’s golf team did not have its best outing of the year at the Loras DuHawk Invitational on Sunday and Monday, placing 17th in the 22 team field, but McCormick proved to be a bright spot for the Pioneers. The senior fought through cool weather and gusting winds to place in the Top 20 in the field individually, as he carded a 76 on Sunday and an 82 on Monday for a 36-hole total of 158. McCormick’s total tied him for 20th in the tournament, which featured more than 100 golfers.

Week 3: April 15, 2008
Jason Pinns - Monmouth College
Freshman - St. Charles, Ill./Glenbard South

Pinns had a marathon day of golf on Monday at the Springfield College of Illinois tournament, as the tourney format called for 36 holes of golf in one day. The freshman opened with an even par round of 72 and then went on to score a 78 during his second round of 18. Pinns’ total of 150 was good for third place individually, just three strokes back of the leader. His round of 72 is the second-best 18-hole round in the MWC this season.

Week 4: April 22, 2008
Adam Ferguson - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Sydney, Nova Scotia/Kent School (CT)

Ferguson won his first collegiate title this past Saturday at Glen Erin Golf Club when he carded a 3-over par 74 at the Beloit Invitational. Ferguson tied the low round for the Lawrence team for the season and led the Vikings to a second-place finish in the team standings. He has now carded a 74, which is the fourth-best round in the MWC, three times this season. Ferguson followed up his medalist performance by shooting 75 in the first round of the Carroll Invitational on Sunday at the Broadlands and then closed with an 86 on Monday at Bristlecone Pines to tie for 14th place.

Week 5: April 29, 2008
Mike Moldenhauer - Ripon College
Sophomore - Oshkosh, Wis./Liberty (Calif.)

Moldenhauer led Ripon to their best finish of the season at the St. Norbert Invitational on Sunday, as the Red Hawks tallied a team total of 320. The score tied first-place Lawrence, who was named champion based on the fifth scorer tiebreaker. The sophomore shot a team-best five-over par 75, which tied him for the third-best 18-hole round of the day.
