Week #1 : September 3, 2007
Offensive
Cody Craig - Quarterback - St. Norbert College
Senior - Neillsville, Wis./Neillsville

Craig matched a career-high for passing yards when he threw for 308 yards in the Green Knights 34-27 season-opening victory over visiting NAIA scholarship school Olivet Nazarene. The senior quarterback completed 20-of-37 passes with three touchdowns and one interception. Craig threw a pair of second quarter TD passes to wide receiver Nick Albert and followed with a 53-yarder to Judd O’Connell in the third quarter that broke a 20-20 tie. Craig was 4-of-6 for 58 yards on the Green Knights’ fourth quarter scoring drive that gave them the lead for good.
Defensive
Jake Weller - Safety - Illinois College
Senior - Jacksonville, Ill./Jacksonville

Weller nearly willed the Blueboys to a season-opening victory when he intercepted two passes, recovered a fumble and made six tackles in a 23-21 road loss at Millikin. The senior safety’s interceptions both ended Millikin drives deep in Blueboy territory, including a pick in the endzone just before halftime. Weller’s fumble recovery at the Millikin 15-yard line early in the fourth quarter led to an Illinois College touchdown one play later that brought the Blueboys within two points at 23-21.
Special Teams

Nate Palkovic - Kicker/Punter - Monmouth
Senior - Peoria, Ill./Woodruff

Palkovic was solid in Monmouth’s 35-7 season-opening loss against No. 25 Wartburg at home on Saturday. The senior punted 12 times for an impressive 44.7 yard average and had two kickoffs travel an average of 64.5 yards. He also booted a PAT in his only place-kick attempt. Palkovic’s 536 punting yards shattered the single-game school record, and his 12 attempts also tied the school mark.

 
Week #2 : September 10, 2007
Offensive
Bryce Crocker - Running Back - Carroll
Senior - Lena, Wis./Oconto Falls

Crocker rushed for 202 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries during the Pioneers 35-6 win at Beloit on Saturday. Crocker scored on runs of four, three and 60 yards before recording the third longest run in MWC history when he got loose on a 93-yard scamper in the third quarter. The senior running back added three receptions for 35 yards.

Pete Jennings - Quarterback - Illinois College
Senior - Neillsville, Wis./Neillsville

Jennings was nearly perfect in the Blueboys’ 41-0 win at Knox, as the senior quarterback completed 23-of-30 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns. Jennings TD throws covered nine, 36, 22 and 13 yards, respectively. Jennings became Illinois College’s career leader in touchdown passes (56) during the contest.

Defensive
Brock Linde - Cornerback - Carroll College
Senior - Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam

Linde had a career evening during Carroll’s 35-6 road win at Beloit on Saturday. The senior cornerback became the eighth player in conference history to intercept three passes in a game, while also recording a team-high seven tackles and blocking a Beloit field goal. Linde returned his first interception, which came with less than a minute remaining in the first half, 51 yards to set up a 33-yard Pioneer touchdown on the next play. The senior cornerback’s second and third interceptions both ended Beloit drives inside the Carroll 35-yard line.
Special Teams

Jimmy Hoover - Defensive Back - Lake Forest College
Junior - Lake St. Louis, Mo./Wentzville Holt

Hoover’s play on special teams helped keep Lake Forest in the game during a 34-27 loss to Ripon on Saturday. The junior defensive back registered three special teams tackles, including one for a two-yard loss on a punt return in the opening quarter. Hoover’s more dramatic exploits occurred in the fourth quarter when he recovered back-to-back onside kicks, the first on the Forester 43-yard line and the second at the Ripon 36-yard line.

 
Week #3 : September 17, 2007
Offensive
Judd O’Connell - Wide Receiver - St. Norbert College
Senior - Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon

O’Connell paced St. Norbert’s offense in a 40-11 win over Lawrence at home on Saturday. The 5-11, 180 pounder finished with six catches for 166 yards and three touchdowns. It was his third consecutive 100-yard receiving game, marking the third time in St. Norbert history that a player has accomplished that feat and the second time O’Connell has done it. The senior wide receiver’s touchdowns covered 21, 16 and 78 yards. He currently leads the MWC in receiving yards (448), receiving touchdowns (6) and all-purpose yards (546).
Defensive
Jake Zeh - Defensive Tackle - Carroll College
Sophomore - Sleepy Hollow, Ill./Dundee-Crown

Zeh became the second Pioneer in as many weeks to be named the MWC Defensive Performer of the Week after the sophomore defensive lineman helped the Carroll defense earn a shutout in Saturday’s 42-0 win over Grinnell. Zeh recorded six total tackles against Grinnell, with 4.5 coming for a combined loss of 22 yards. The 6-1, 230-pound tackle also had three sacks and recovered a fumble that he forced.
Special Teams

Kurt Roeder - Punter - Ripon College
Freshman - Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam

Roeder helped the Red Hawks win the field position battle in Saturday’s 28-10 home victory over Knox. The freshman punter averaged 37.2 yards per kick on five punts, with a long of 62 yards and a pair of punts inside the 20-yard line. He also added a tackle and broke up a pass as a defensive back.

Offensive
Tygh Walters - Quarterback - Ripon College
Junior - West Bend, Wis./West Bend West

Walters enjoyed a career afternoon in a 48-17 win at Illinois College, as the junior quarterback accounted for six touchdowns in the victory. The conference leader in passing efficiency entering the game, Walters maintained his rank by throwing for 173 yards and four touchdowns (7, 59, 13, 25) on 10-of-17 passing. The 5-11, 180-pound QB also keyed the Red Hawk rushing attack, which produced 349 yards on the ground, with 120 yards and two touchdowns (2, 5) on 21 carries. The win leaves Ripon as one of three MWC teams with a 3-0 league mark and gave the Blueboys their first conference loss.
Defensive
Ben Westfeldt - Strong Safety - Grinnell College
Senior - Aspen, Colo./Aspen

Westfeldt (3 tackles) made a pair of huge fourth quarter plays to help Grinnell capture its first victory of the season, a 24-19 decision over Lawrence. Leading 21-13 midway through the fourth quarter, the senior safety recovered a fumble forced by Ryan Fletcher at the Lawrence 46-yard line. Nine plays later, the Pioneers kicked a field goal to stretch their lead to 24-13. After cutting the lead to 24-19, Lawrence was driving toward the winning score in the final two minutes when Westfeldt stepped in front of a Viking pass at the Grinnell 10-yard line.
Special Teams

Nate Palkovic - Kicker/Punter - Monmouth
Senior - Peoria, Ill./Woodruff

One week after setting the Monmouth career scoring record, Palkovic was the hero in a 6-3 win over Carroll. The senior kicker gave Monmouth a 3-0 lead with a 36-yard kick in the second quarter (2:49), before splitting the uprights on the game-winner from 25 yards out with 4:28 left in the contest. Palkovic also averaged 35.2 yards per kick on six punts, booted a long punt of 50 yards and placed two balls inside the Carroll 20-yard-line.

   
Week #5 : October 1, 2007
Offensive
Dan Carter - Wide Receiver - Lake Forest College
Sophomore - Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator

Carter led the Foresters to their first victory of the season on Saturday, as Lake Forest outlasted Beloit on the road in a shootout, 44-36. The 6-4 sophomore wide receiver caught nine passes for 164 yards in the game and tied a school record with three touchdown receptions. His first score was a 42-yard grab that cut Beloit’s second-quarter lead to 14-9. The second (27 yards) and third (21) came during a 22-point third quarter that put the Foresters ahead 44-17. Carter led the MWC in touchdown receptions (11) a year ago and has caught five touchdowns in 2007.
Defensive
John Rappel - Cornerback - St. Norbert College
Junior - Manitowoc, Wis./Manitowoc

Rappel became the first player in St. Norbert history to return two interceptions for touchdowns in the same game, as the junior cornerback sparked the Green Knights to a 49-14 win over Knox. Rappel’s first theft occurred in the first quarter and was returned 35 yards to put the Green Knights up 14-0. The second interception closed the game’s scoring, as Rappel took the record-braking interception 22 yards to paydirt. He also added 10 tackles, including a pair of tackles for losses, in the contest.
Special Teams

Josh Kraemer - Cornerback - Ripon College
Junior - Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West

Kraemer became the first player in the MWC this season to return a kickoff for a touchdown when the junior cornerback took a second quarter kick back 84 yards for a touchdown and a 13-7 Ripon lead during a 28-26 loss to Carroll. Kraemer finished with game with five kick returns for 162 yards and also returned one punt 13 yards. On defense, he intercepted a pass, made three tackles and one tackle for loss.

   
Week #6 : October 8, 2007
Offensive
Cody Craig - Quarterback - St. Norbert College
Senior - Neillsville, Wis./Neillsville

Craig passed for a career-high 349 yards and accounted for three scores on Saturday, as St. Norbert took over sole possession of first place in MWC with a 42-28 win at Monmouth. The senior quarterback, who was not intercepted in the game, also recorded career highs in completions (24) and passing attempts (40) against the Scots. Craig threw a pair of 33-yard TD passes in the game, before tallying the Green Knights final score on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter. Craig currently leads the MWC and is ranked nationally in passing yards (1,643) and passing touchdowns (19).
Defensive
Josh Kraemer - Cornerback - Ripon College
Junior - Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West

Kraemer led the Red Hawk’s defensive unit in Saturday’s 56-9 win at Beloit. The junior safety intercepted two passes in the game, including a second quarter pick that he returned 53 yards for a touchdown, giving Ripon a 35-3 lead just before halftime. Kraemer, who added a 19-yard kickoff return in the contest, made one tackle in the game. He has team-high three interceptions this season and leads the MWC in kickoff return average (25.4).

Special Teams

Jack Dippold - Kicker - Knox College
Junior - Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame

Dippold was perfect in Knox’s 38-7 home victory over Grinnell on Saturday, converting all six of his attempts on the afternoon. Dippold was 5-for-5 on extra point attempts and split the uprights on a 28-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter. The junior kicker has made 14-of-15 extra point attempts and 3-of-4 field goals this season.

Offensive
Eric Aspenson - Quarterback - Lawrence University
Senior - Rockford, Ill./Lutheran

Aspenson tossed a school-record five touchdown passes to lead Lawrence to a 50-21 MWC win over Knox. The senior quarterback completed 14 of 21 passes for 308 yards and ran nine times for 47 yards. Aspenson, who averaged 22 yards per completion, completed touchdown passes of 73, 71, 42, 23 and 10 yards to break the record of four touchdown passes in a game he shared with five other players. He also became the first Lawrence quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards in a game since Chris McGinley did it against Ripon on November 9, 2002.
Defensive

Sam Laes - Safety - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon

Laes made several big plays during Lawrence’s 51-20 victory over Knox at home on Saturday. The sophomore safety, who finished with six tackles in the game, recorded an interception and recovered a fumble in Knox territory that resulted in Lawrence touchdowns on the ensuing possessions. He also recorded his first career touchdown on a fake punt when he caught a pass from Eric Aspenson, broke several tackles and cut back across the field for a 42-yard score.

Special Teams

Josh Kraemer - Cornerback - Ripon College
Junior - Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West

Kraemer made a variety of special teams plays during the Red Hawks’ 27-20 win over Monmouth that put Ripon in sole possession of second place in the MWC. The junior defensive back, who ranks first in the league in kickoff returns and second in punt returns, averaged 27.3 and 16.0 yards per return on kickoffs and punts in the game, respectively. Three of Ripon’s four scoring drives in the game occurred after Kraemer returned the ball (2 punts, 1 kickoff) into Monmouth territory. Kraemer, who also handled Ripon’s kickoff duties, blocked a third quarter field goal that would have given Monmouth the lead and made three tackles in the game.

   
Week #8 : October 22, 2007
Offensive
Cody Craig - Quarterback - St. Norbert
Senior - Neillsville, Wis./Neillsville

Craig led St. Norbert to a 52-27 home win over Ripon on Saturday that clinched the MWC title and automatic NCAA playoff berth for the Green Knights. The senior quarterback completed 19-of-27 passes for 309 yards and four touchdown passes (34, 8, 18, 21) in just three quarters of work. Craig tied the St. Norbert season record with 26 touchdown passes and went over 300 yards throwing for the third time this season. He has thrown for 2,131 yards this season and is 312 yards shy of cracking the MWC’s top 10 list for single-season passing yards.

Joe Reed - Quarterback - Illinois College
Senior - Camp Point, Ill./Carthage

With Illinois College’s top two quarterbacks out with injuries, the school’s all-time leading receiver filled in under center in Saturday’s 49-21 win over Grinnell. Reed, who had attempted nine collegiate passes prior to Saturday, made his start memorable by throwing for 282 yards and four touchdowns (39, 58, 11, 2) on 19-of-31 passing. The senior also scored on an 18-yard run as time expired in the first half.

Defensive

Matt Casper - Defensive End - Carroll College
Freshman - Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine

Casper highlighted a solid all-around performance with his first career touchdown during Saturday’s 51-21 win at Knox. The freshman defensive end made four tackles in the game, including a half sack and tackle for loss, but his biggest impact came on a pair of fumble recoveries. On Knox’s second play from scrimmage, Casper fell on a fumble at the Prairie Fire 20-yard line that led to the Pioneers first touchdown of the game. His second recovery punctuated a 31-point second quarter, as the 6-3, 240 pounder rumbled 48 yards to the endzone with four seconds remaining in the first half.

Special Teams

Matt Shepherd - Wide Receiver - Monmouth College
Freshman - Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg

Entering the third quarter of its game at Lake Forest leading 13-7, Shepherd sparked the Fighting Scots to a 41-19 victory by returning the second half kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown. The freshman wide receiver also added three punt returns of 40, 27 and 16 yards. His 190 yards of kick returns is good for second on Monmouth’s all-time single-game list. As a receiver, Shepherd caught two passes for 78 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown.

John McGuire - Running Back - Ripon College
Senior - Algoma, Wis./Algoma

McGuire led the way for a Ripon rushing attack that ran for 460 yards, the fourth-best single-game total in school history, during a 47-21 win at Grinnell on Saturday. The senior running back, who carried 12 times for 127 yards against the Pioneers, reached the endzone three times on runs of 13, 11 and 18 yards. One of his two receptions in the game also went for a score, as McGuire caught a 25-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
Defensive

Cole Norman - Cornerback - Monmouth College
Junior - Peoria, Ill./Richwoods

Norman had a hand in three turnovers during Monmouth’s 26-23 overtime victory over Illinois College on Saturday. With 39 seconds remaining in regulation, Norman intercepted a Blueboy pass at the one-yard line to preserve a 20-20 tie and force overtime. The junior cornerback also added another interception, forced a fumble that was recovered by the Scots and made a tackle in the contest.

Special Teams

Brett Grant - Punter - Illinois College
Freshman - Cottage Hills, Ill. (Civic Memorial

Making his first career start, Grant helped the Blueboys in the field position battle, as Illinois College nearly upset Monmouth during a 26-23 overtime loss on Saturday. The freshman punter averaged 42.8 yards per punt on six kicks in the contest, including three punts of 50 yards or more (54, 52, 51) and a pair of kicks inside the Monmouth 20-yard line.

Offensive
Alex Tanney - Quarterback - Monmouth College
Freshman - Lexington, Ill./Lexington

Tanney led the Fighting Scots to a 42-14 season-ending road win over rival Knox on Saturday. The freshman quarterback completed 24-of-29 passes for 309 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. Tanney completed passes to 10 different receivers on the afternoon, with no one player making more than five catches. His pass efficiency rating for the day was 229.16, while his five touchdown passes ranks second on Monmouth’s all-time single-game list.

Defensive

Ben Hackbart - Defensive Back - St. Norbert College
Sophomore - Sussex, Wis./Hartland Arrowhead

Hackbart finished with a game-high 15 tackles and provided the game-changing play in St. Norbert’s 31-24 come-from-behind win at Illinois College on Saturday. With the game tied at 17-17 in the third quarter, the sophomore defensive back stepped in front of a Blueboy pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown to give the Green Knights the lead for good. He also recorded 1.5 tackles for loss, as St. Norbert improved to 23-0 under Jim Purtill when scoring a defensive touchdown.

Special Teams

Rob Berger - Punter - St. Norbert College
Freshman - Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake

Berger punted five times for 237 yards, a 47.4 yards per punt average, proving to be pivotal in the Green Knights’ 31-24 win over Illinois College. The freshman punter placed three punts inside the Blueboys’ 20-yard line, as Illinois College’s average starting field position in the game was its own 25-yard line. A pair of Berger’s punts were also downed at the Blueboy one-yard line in the second half.

Offensive

Craig Ebert - Running Back - Lawrence University
Junior - New London, Wis./New London

Ebert recorded team season-highs for carries and yards in Lawrence’s 37-30 loss at Macalester on Saturday. The junior running back carried 26 times for 150 yards, a 5.8-yard per carry average, and scored a touchdown on a five-yard run. He also caught two passes for seven yards. Ebert’s day is the biggest for a Lawrence running back since the final game of the 2004 season, when Adrell Bullock ran 19 times for 173 yards in a win against Macalester.

Defensive

Kevin Penza - Linebacker - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon

Penza registered his fifth double-digit tackle day of season in Lawrence’s 37-30 loss at Macalester on Saturday. The sophomore linebacker finished with 11 tackles, two shy of his high for the season, had one tackle for a loss, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. Penza finished the season with a team-high 90 tackles, including 12 tackles for losses.
