Kinsella named Lawrence assistant football coach

APPLETON, Wis. -- Paul Kinsella has been named the offensive coordinator/recruiting coordinator for the Lawrence University football team, Director of Athletics Robert Beeman announced Tuesday.

A native of Bolingbrook, Ill., Kinsella comes to Lawrence from Lakeland College, where he has spent the past five seasons. Kinsella has served as both the offensive and defensive coordinator at Lakeland, which compiled a 34-17 record during his time there.

"We are very excited with the experience and personal character that coach Kinsella brings to the program," Lawrence head coach Chris Howard said. "He has shown great coaching ability in a variety of situations, and we look forward to him making a major positive impact on our 2007 season and beyond."

Kinsella, 33, is a 1995 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics. An All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection for the Titans, Kinsella has a master's degree in sports management from Northern Illinois University.

Kinsella was the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Lakeland last season and had spent the previous three seasons coaching the offensive line and serving as offensive coordinator. The Muskies were one of the top offenses in the country during that stretch and won back-to-back Illini-Badger Conference championships in 2004 and 2005.

Before coming to Lakeland, Kinsella worked as the defensive coordinator, secondary coach, and offensive line coach at North Park University in 2001-02. He was a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois from 1999-2001 and the offensive line coach at North Central College in 1998-99.

Kinsella, who will begin his duties at Lawrence on July 1, and his wife, Sara, have a daughter, Kaitlynn.

Lawrence finished 5-5 last season, the second under Howard's leadership, and finished sixth in the Midwest Conference with a 4-5 record. The Vikings open the 2007 season Sept. 8 in the Banta Bowl against Monmouth College.
