MWC trio makes strong showing at nationals
Booth, Igielski earn All-American honors; Barr
runs well
Grinnell senior Adam Booth became
Grinnell's first ever All-American in cross country with a 4th-place
individual finish at the NCAA Cross Country championships in Hanover,
Ind. Booth's time of 25:12 had him finishing behind Josh Moen
of Wartburg (24:34), Machiria Yupt of Widener (25:03), and Marcus
Murphy of Loras (25:12). Now an All-American and with three individual
conference titles under his belt, Booth leaves the program with
the fastest 8k times in both Grinnell and MWC history (24:29).
Carroll senior Kristen Igielski finished
5th at the 2003 NCAA Championship to earn her second-consecutive
all-American honor. She completed the 6-kilometer race in 21:44.5
Igielski finishes her career as a two-time individual MWC Champion
as well as a three-time NCAA National qualifier. Igielski was
in the top 30 at about the 1000-meter mark and moved up to 12th
at the 2000-meter mark. At the 5-kilometer mark she caught up
to 4th place runner but was unable to maintain that position in
the final 200-meters.
Monmouth sophomore Zach Barr made
his first appearance on the national stage at in Hanover, Ind.,
and the former Roseville High School star came away with a 68th-place
finish, covering the 8K course in 26:22.1. All-American honors
were awarded to the top 35 finishers, and Barr found himself a
mere 30.9 seconds away from that level.
