Ripon's Johnson receives All-American status
Ripon's Nick Johnson became the school's
second baseball All-American ever when he was picked as a first-team
utility player by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Johnson
led the MWC with a .516 batting average, .984 slugging percentage and
32 hits in 16 conference games. For a complete listing of the Division

MWC players nab post-season honors
Nine MWC representatives were named to
the 2003 American Baseball Coaches Association Division III Midwest
Region Baseball Teams recently. Ripon collected five of those selections
with cathcer Nick Thoen, second baseman Luke Hagel and utility player
Nick Johnson earning first-team honors. Fellow Red Hawks Aaron Johnson,
third base, and Brad Mott, shortstop, were second team picks along with
Monmouth's Beau Hellman at the utility position. Casey Nelson of Beloit
and Brian Lesandrini of St. Norbert were also honored at the utility
position when they were placed on the third team along with first-year
outfielder Jason Salmon of Monmouth. For a complete listing of the all-region

Ripon, Monmouth unanimous favorites
in pre-season coaches' polls
Ripon and Monmouth were unanimous selections
to win their respective divisions in the upcoming 2003 season according
to a recent poll of MWC baseball coaches. The Red Hawks won four-straight
titles from 1998 to 2001 before the Fighting Scots claimed their first
championship since 1993 last season.
In the North Division, St. Norbert was a
heavy favorite to finish second. Lawrence finished third in the poll,
while Beloit and Carroll rounded out the votes in the North.
In the South Division, Knox was chosen to
place second, while Grinnell and Illinois C. were tied for the third place
spot.
